AMES -- Iowa State first baseman Erica Miller has been named to the First Team All-Big 12, the league office announced Tuesday. The honor is Miller's second conference nod after being selected to the second team in 2011.

Vinton Vikes 14U Black team took 1st place in the May 5 and 6th Corn Shucker Challenge Tourney. It was held at the Marvin Lindsey Complex in Vinton.

  The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes traveled to Ames Sunday night, where they stayed overnight in a hotel to prepare for today's District golf tournement there.

Dylan Rippel made second-team all conference with a 79 (14th place), leading the Vinton-Shellsburg boys golf team at the WaMaC Super Meet Monday at Solon "I am very proud of him.

The Vinton-Shellburg Middle School 8th grade girls won their home meet, the Little Vikette Invitational, on Tuesday evening. The Vikettes scored 136 team points, 37 more than second-place Monticello.

  VINTON – The first out-of-state driver to win a JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour main event was the winner when the IMCA Modified series opened Tuesday night at Benton County Speedway.

Jim Womochil has been working for Paul Rhoads at Iowa State University since December. But the 1985 Vinton graduate and former Viking and UNI Panther football player is giving up the college coaching opportunity to return to his hometown.
