Viking 11U team end season with tourney win

The Viking 11U team ended its season with a tourney championship. The 11U Viking Baseball team wrapped up their season by winning the PST League Tournament this past weekend with a 11-7 victory over the Prairie Hawks.  The team went 4-1 during the tournament and outscored their opponents 63-26 in the five games.  Scott Betterton pitched a complete game in the championship while Riley Deklotz and Keegan Thompson led the Vikings by scoring 7 of the 11 runs in the finale.

Last Call for VPRD Sandpit Volleyball League Registrations‏

Starting in mid-July, VPRD will begin its NEW Sandpit Volleyball League! There will be a coed league that will play on Sunday late afternoons / early evenings and a women's league that will play Wednesday nights. If you are interested in forming a team, please have your registration form turned into us by Thursday, July 5th. League play will tentatively begin the week of July 15th at the Riverside Park sandpit courts.

News from the Speedway

  No more than a car-length separated Jeff Aikey and Ray Guss Jr. for much of the 40-lapper, but that’s all Aikey needed when the checkers waved in the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models at Independence Motor Speedway.   Aikey, who took charge two laps following a lap 10 restart, held off Guss in thrilling fashion to score his first series win of the season and his second straight at Independence.

VS 11 & 12 year old girls place 2nd in 4X100 Relay

VS Girls 11-12 yr old 4x100 relay team: Sara Schminke, Libbie Timmerman, Olivia Coder, Taylor Spies At the State Hershey Track Meet in Marshalltown, the Vinton-Shellsburg 11-12 year old girls took home 2nd place in the 4x100 relay race. They led their heat with their personal best time of 1:01.96. The winners of the second heat were the only ones to beat them with a time of 1:00.92. Members of the 4x100 team were Sara Schminke, Taylor Spies, Libbie Timmerman and Olivia Coder.

High School Softball: Vikettes end regular season with sweep of Bobcats

Senior Lindsey Noren shut out the Bobcats in Game 1. The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes begin their Regional action this week with a bye and a 28-12 record. The girls defeated Benton, 2-0 and 7-1 on Monday, which was also Senior night. Senior Lindsey Noren pitched the Vikettes to victory in the opener, holding the Bobcats scoreless. It was Noren's 15th win of the season The Vikette bats made the difference in Game 2.

Hogan Memorial takes place July 8; potential payoff of $3,500

  The winner of the Hogan Memorial can more than double their money with a long run at the front of the IMCA Modified feature field this Sunday, July 8 at Benton County Speedway. The headline event pays a minimum of $1,250 to win and an­other $50 for each of the 40 laps led, plus $250 to the leader at midway. That makes for a potential payoff of $3,500.

Viking 14U team finishes 3rd at USSSA 'A' State event

Dvorak continues winning weekend with victory in Vinton

Vinton racer Danny Dvorak won in both Independence and Vinton this past weekend. Danny Dvorak made it two wins in a row in the IMCA Sports Mod dirt track racing. He followed his win at the Mid-Season Championships in Independence on Saturday with a Feature win in Vinton on Sunday, July 2. VS Volleyball camp for 3-6-grade players set for July 30-Aug. 1

  The Little Vikes Volleyball Camp for kids going into 3rd-6th grade will take place July 30, and Aug. 1, from 8am-10am.  Cost is $30;  please register by July 11th to receive a t-shirt.

Vinton drivers Dvorak, Stander win Mid-Season features in Independence

  INDEPENDENCE – A great field of 113 race teams filled the pits for Budweiser Mid-Season Championships at Independence Motor Speedway. A pair of brothers, while another pair of drivers from Vinton, all claimed titles during the special event.   Brothers and defending IMCA Modified and IMCA Stock Car champions Adam Johnson and Sean Johnson last won on the same night during Season Championship action last season.
