'Get Low' brings tall tale, and well-known actors to Palace screen
The recluse comes out of the woods this week when “Get Low” plays the Palace from Friday, October 22 through Thursday, October 28 at 7 p.m. nightly. The self-proclaimed tall tale will also show in our regular Monday Matinee at 2 p.m.
Robert Duvall is Felix Bush, a hermit with a story to tell. He hires Bill Murray’s funeral parlor to “put on” his funeral party.
'Easy A' takes on serious issues with humor
One of my criticisms about modern movies (and TV) is the utter lack of originality.
"The next one in the series is going to be called the 'Bourne Redundancy,'" I said to the lady at the video store while looking at one of the Bourne movies.
I also intensely dislike movies that contain lots of teenagers (including the last "Chimpmunks" movie, "Squeakuel.
'Easy A' is funny take on serious issues facing teens
“It's a funny, engaging comedy that takes the familiar but underrated Emma Stone and makes her, I believe, a star.” Roger Ebert
“Easy A” opens Friday, October 15 and plays through Thursday, October 21 at 7 pm nightly, and Monday, October 18 at 2 p.m.
This teenage comedy, about a young girl who starts a rumor that she lost her virginity to a college boy to enhance her reputation, is rated PG-13 for mature thematic elements involving teenage sexuality, language and some drug material, and runs 90 minutes.
From the Front Row of the Balcony: 'Eclipse' unites teens, vampires & werewolves
Michael Feldman, the comedian on the National Public Radio’s What D’Ya Know program, said the big question that the “Twilight” saga raises is this: Is there a difference between teenagers and vampires?
Yes, I thought, as I listened to the radio show. Vampires are much easier on the family car.
Until, that is, I saw the latest “Twilight” movie, and realized I was wrong.
At last: 'Twilight' comes to the Palace
It’s been so long! But well worth the wait – I promise! The Palace Theatre reopens after a 2-week hiatus on Friday, October 8 with “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” playing through Thursday, October 14 at 7 p.m. every night, and Monday, October 11 at 2 p.m.
Palace patrons have waited patiently for this PG-13-rated vampire flick.

From the front row of the balcony: Movie industry needs more like Nanny McPhee
Paul Harvey – whom Americas misses way more than Americans realize – used to say, “Wash your ears out with this.”
He used that phrase after sharing some particularly bad news, and just before sharing something good.
I thought of Paul Harvey Saturday night at the Palace, as I sat watching “Nanny McPhee Returns.
From the Front Row of the Balcony: Expendables as bad as critics who like it say
If, indeed, we can judge a movie by what its friends say, then maybe we should begin our discussion of “The Expendables” with some comments from people who gave the movie a “positive review” on the www.rottentomatoes.com:
“Far from awesome and not totally dumb, The Expendables is kinda awesomely dumb, which makes it pretty good fun.
