'Grown Ups' at the Palace

Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Maria Bello, Salma Hayek and Steve Buscemi laugh up the Palace silver screen, in $2 2D, Friday, July 30 through Thursday, August 5 at 7 p.m. nightly and Monday, August 2 at 2 p.m.  “Grown Ups,” rated PG-13 for crude material including suggestive references, language and some male rear nudity (and trust me this won’t be good male rear nudity), runs 102 minutes.

Don't let the name fool you: Karate Kid is about much more than action, teenager

There were two reasons I was not looking forward to seeing "Karate Kid" at the Palace — the two words in the title. Among my least favorite movies are action movies, and movies about teenagers.   Maybe it's because I have had teenagers living in my house since 2001, and I have 10 more years of it to look forward to.

Local residents perform at Gallagher-Bluedorn

Dear Editor, It was great to attend the 'Follies' at Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls on Sunday, July 18. Featured in the cast were Mike and Lori Ferguson of Vinton. Vinton should be very proud of having excellent local talent involved in the production. Way to go, Lori and Mike!   Nancy Baldwin

'Karate Kid' comes to Palace; critics like remake of '84 film

The 3D filter will be pushed aside this week (and for the next few weeks) when the Palace brings you “The Karate Kid,” rated PG.  This critic-approved remake of the 1984 original will play Friday, July 23 through Thursday, July 29 at 7 p.m. nightly, and Saturday, July 24 and Monday, July 26 at 2 p.m. I caught Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith on “The View” one morning.

Palace says, 'Come on in and have a seat'

Our family (loves) Vinton Palace Theatre!! We saw Shrek last weekend when allllll the family was here (21 of us running around asking everyone to "do the roar" for a week - goood times!) and then those of us still here came to the 7 pm movie tonight (Toy Story 3)...LOVED IT! It's like everyone has said - we laughed, we cried and we loved it all! Thanks for the awesome deal and family fun! :) Thanks for that note of recommendation from one of our loyal Facebook fans!  (BTW –Vinton Palace Theatre on Facebook currently has 496 fans!  If you haven’t “liked” us, please do – I’d love to see that number double, even triple!) From the Front Row of the Balcony: 'Toy Story 3' has all a movie can offer

Toy Story 3 combines action, drama suspense, all with a family-friendly G-rating. Bo Peep is long gone, thanks to a garage sale sometime since 1999. Andy is about to leave for college. All that's left for Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the Toy Story crew is a trip to the attic, where they may live until Andy has children.   Or worse perhaps, they fear, a worse fate awaits them —  the landfill.

From the Front row of the Balcony: Shrek 4 a perfect way to begin Digital Age

Editor's Note: This is a new feature at Vinton Today, sort of a trial run to see if VT readers are interested in something like this. I will see the new movie that plays at the Palace, and write a short review from a very non-movie critic perspective. My goal is to do this each week, as along as VT readers seem interested.  The movie, this week, was second to the technology at the Palace Screen.
