Two weeks in a row?  Nicholas Sparks is back, ladies! “The Last Song,” starring Miley Cyrus (girl), Liam Hemsworth (guy) and Greg Kinnear (dad), plays the Palace THREE NIGHTS ONLY on Friday, May 7 and Saturday May 8 at 7 pm and 9 pm, and Sunday, May 9 at 7 pm.  This romantic drama with a bit of comedy runs 108 minutes and is rated PG for thematic material, some violence and sensuality, and language.

A Born Actress: Mikala Neimeier has always loved performing

But that seems to be only added incentive to this energetic girl, who appears to have been preparing for the stage since early childhood and will continue her ACT I performances this summer in the acclaimed musical 13.

Second Stage! Summer Theatre Camp Details Announced

'Splashtastic' is the theme for Second Stage! directed by Mary Horst in Van Horne this summer.  Director Mary Horst has announced details of this year's Second Stage! Summer Theatre Camp from ACT I. Showing June 25 and 26 at 7:00 PM at the Benton Community High School Auditorium in Van Horne, the show is titled SPLASTASTIC and Horst promises many different performance elements in this years production, giving the young performers opportunities for a wide range of experience.

All-Teen Musical comes to Benton County

  The only all-teen musical to ever run on Broadway comes to Benton County August 6 – 15, 2010, produced by ACT I and performed at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School auditorium.  This will be one of the first productions of the show in the Midwest and possibly the first in Iowa.  Auditions were held April 24 and 25, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the ACT I Studio above Clingman Pharmacy in Vinton.

Katie Hancock and Taylor Livengood By Anthony Bopp   On Saturday, over 15 area teens appeared for auditions for the 13-member cast of ACT I of Benton County's production of '13' to be staged at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School Auditorium in August for 6 performances. Another day of rehearsals took place Sunday, April 25, withanother dozen auditioning.   13 is a fast-paced, edgy look at being thirteen years old, as seen through the eyes of Evan Goldman, a Jewish boy from New York City who must move to Indiana with his mother following his parents’ divorce.

Fund-raising continues for Palace digital system; Kiwanis Club gives $1,000

Kiwanis Tom Lindauer, Michelle Schoonover & Ashlyn Christensen give check to Palace's Marcy Horst. The fund-raising continues for the Vinton Palace Theatre digital projection system. Two recent $1,000 donations have added to the total. The Vinton Kiwanis Club donated $1,000 to the project. Kiwanis President Ashlyn Christensen presented a check for $1,000 to Palace Manager Marcy Horst. Donations continue to come in at the Palace during movie nights.
