Last Saturday morning found a group of athletes at the Vinton Skate Center for the Unified Golf Tournament as part of the Special Olympics.Several participants from the area met to enjoy a morning of friendly competition.

Kiwanis Boomtown 5K Run/Walk Saturday, August 24

The Vinton Kiwanis will hold the Boomtown 5K on Saturday, August 24 with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m.The Kiwanis will be making a $10 donation with every registration to the Operation Backpack program which helps student that might need a little bit of help with nutritional needs while they are home on the weekends.

The Deery Brothers Summer Series headlines blue ribbon fair week entertainment next Thursday, June 27 at the Benton County Speedway. The 50-lap $2,000 to win event marks just the fourth visit by the IMCA Late Model tour to Vinton.

Lamont Named to All-District

The high school girls golf season is officially completed, but the All-District list was published only this past week. In addition to winning the WaMaC Conference, Individual Championship at the May 6th Super Meet at Gardner Golf Course in Marion this year, Vinton-Shellsburg's Lillie Lamont was named for this honor.
