Stueck earns medal; Vikings 8th at WAMAC Super Meet at Wildcat

The Vinton-Shellburg boys golf team hosted the WAMAC Super Meet at the Wildcat Golf Course in Shellsburg on Tuesday. The Vikings, led by Tyler Stueck's 77, finished in eighth place. Stueck was tied for 24th place and earned Honorable Mention.  See complete results HERE. Vikettes take fourth at WAMAC Super Meet

Vikette golfers Natalie Ketchen (96), Erin Randall (100) and Cara Hach (103) received medals at the WAMAC Conference Super Meet on Tuesday.  All three V-S seniors placed in the top 25  in the 15-team, 18-hole meet. The Vikettes placed fourth as a team. Red Cedar Shooters finish 5th at CF, only four points from first

25 straight: Red Cedar Shooters Logan Salger, Sara Jorgensen and Drake Tilson earned honor at CF. The Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters trap team took home the 5th place trophy after a day of close competition at the Cedar Falls Gun Club's 28th Annual High School Trap Tournament Saturday. The Red Cedar Shooters Black Squad turned in a team score of 223/250 in the regular competition round, which was just 4 shots out of 1st place.  Tie-breaker shoot-off's for 2nd and 3rd place teams tied with 224/250, and a shoot-off for the Red Cedar Shooters for 4th and 5th place at 223/250 made for a day of very tight competition.

Alumni Football USA: V-S to play CPU June 7

Alumni Football: Jason Boisen hands off to Jordan Otdoerfer in '12; VS will play CPU again June 7.. Plans for a Vinton-Shellsburg/Benton Commmunity Alumni USA football game did not come together like VS Captain Randy Scheel had hoped, but Scheel and his team will get to play one game this summer -- again against Center Point Urbana, on June 7, in Center Point. Best performance of year: Vikings defeat Independence at Vinton Country Club

  On Tuesday, the boys golf team turned in its best performance of the year. The7 scored a season best 160, to defeat Independence who shot 164. The meet took place in Vinton at the Vinton Country Club. The temperature was warm and the wind died down soon after the meet started to make for a great round of golf. The Vikings had many golfers playing Tuesday and many of them turned in their personal bests.

VSMS 8th graders first, 7th graders second in Little Viking Invitational

The Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School Little Viking Invitational took place Tuesday evening in Vinton. The VSMS 8th graders won the event while the 7th grade boys finished second. Tuesday night racing: Hawkeye Dirt Tour comes to Vinton, May 7

  Opening night takes the Karl Performance Hawkeye Dirt Tour to Benton County Speedway for the third consecutive year next Tuesday, May 7. The feature event for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Vinton will pay $1,000 to win and a minimum of $150 to start, and is a qualifying event for this fall’s Fast Shafts All-star Invitational ballot.

Viking boys 5th at WaMaC West meet; Ervin leads team with 39

  The boys golf team finished in 5th place Monday at Gardner Golf Course in Marion. The course was in good shape and all 8 teams enjoyed a beautiful day for a round of golf. Waterloo Columbus won the meet shooting 149 and had five medalists. Independence was second with 162 and had one medalist. Benton was third with 165 and had Jacob Germann as the third place medalist.

WAMAC West Champs! Vikings at South Hills Golf Course

WAMAC West Golf Champs: Coach Janet Woodhouse and the 2013 VS Vikettes! The Vinton-Shellburg girls golf team were a bunch of "happy campers" on the way home from the WAMAC West golf meet in Waterloo on Monday evening, says Coach Janet Woodhouse.
