The Vikings finished in third place at the Lake McBride Golf course Thursday. The course was in good condition but it was tough conditions with the cold and wind gusts up to 25 mph.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters trap shooting team have won their last 2 home meets.
On Saturday, April 27, the Red Cedar Shooters hosted the Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Sigourney trap shooting teams at the Red Cedar Izaak Walton Chapter. A total of 55 high school shooters competed in the all day event, with the Red Cedar Shooters squads taking the top three scores for the day.

Despite Friday's loss to Waterloo Columbus at home on Friday, the Vinton-Shellsburg boys soccer team has already enjoyed more success this season than most second-year teams.
The Vikings are now 3-3 on the season; their record last year was 2-12.
Goalie Logan Davis, a first-year soccer player, has already recorded 60 saves, and averages 10 per game.

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (April 27) – Independence Motor Speedway started its 2013 season with 113 race teams into the pit area for opening night action. By night’s end, six of those drivers were standing in victory lane.
In the 20-lap IMCA Modified feature, front row starter J.D. Auringer took the lead at the drop of the green and quickly pulled away from the pack.

Lauren Tandy led the Vinton-Shellsburg girls golf team for the first time in her career, shooting a 45 as the Vikettes finished second in a home invitational tournament against Williamsburg, West Delaware and Independence, Friday at the Vinton County Club.

In a season that has included many weather-related track meet cancellations, the Vinton-Shellsburg boys hosted their invitational tournament Thursday at the Karr Athletic Complex.
The Vikings, led by runners Ricky Jeray and Nolan Sagan, and discus thrower Chase Overton, placed third in team scoring, with 93.5 points. Solon won the meet with 108; West Delaware was second.

Erin Randall led the Vikings with a 42, and lost for the medalist honors only through a tie-breaker, as she led the Vinton-Shellsburg golfers to a win at the West Delaware Tournament Monday in Manchester.

The Vinton-Shellsburg High School girls track team continued its tradition of helping with the Special Olympics event in Cedar Rapids again this year. The girls and coach Heather Kalous participated in this year's event on Saturday, April 20.

Three Union students will be representing the Knights at the 2013 Iowa Shrine game held at UNI this year. The game will be played on Saturday, July 27th at the UNI Dome. The game was previously played at Jack Trice stadium on the campus of ISU. Game time kickoff is 4:00pm. Game tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. Children 6 and under get in free.
