Vinton-Shellsburg golfers Natalie Ketchen and Kacie Struve achieved the honor of being named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association All State Academic Team. (Players must be a senior and have a minimum ACT score of 27 and a GPA minimum of 3.75.)
All District Golf team selections have been announced; Erin Randall and Natalie Ketchen were both named All-District for the South Central district.

Cancer survivor Ackerman celebrates win at Independence Motor Speedway
“I didn’t know if I’d ever make it back here. I just can’t describe it.”
Those were the words spoken by Darren Ackerman as he fought back tears in victory lane after winning the IMCA Late Model feature Saturday night at Independence Motor Speedway.
Ackerman, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in late 2011, sat out the 2012 season to fight and beat the disease.
