Vikettes take second in tough conditions at Amana

It was a tough course and tough conditions, says Vinton-Shellsburg girls golf coach Janet Woodhouse. The Vikettes struggled, along with their competitors, against the cold, cloudy windy weather on a course that most had not played before. They did manage, however, to take second in the four-way meet. Viking golf team now 21-4 after successful tournaments

South Tama meet medalists Ty Stueck and David Janssen Vinton-Shellsburg boys golf coach Chad Pettyjohn is pleased with the progress of his golfers.  The Vikings have now outscored 21 of the 25 teams they have played against. Vikette soccer team off to best start in school history

The Vikettes are 4-1 on the soccer season; the team's best start in school history. After a difficult 5-0 loss at Western Dubuque to start the season, the Vinton-Shellsburg girls soccer team has won four straight, outscoring opponents 12-1. On Friday, six different Vikettes scored in the 6-0 win over Benton Community. “It's been a successful season so far and things are going well,” says Coach Dave Cornell. “We're not finishing as well as we need to, but in most other areas I'm satisfied with where we're at.

Vikettes win Vinton Invite by 1 over Bobcats

The members of the Vinton-Shellsburg High School girls golf team celebrated two consecutive victories in the past few days. On Thursday, the girls wore their bright yellow shirts for their home meet vs. Independence, which they won by 20 strokes. Then on Saturday, they donned purple and black and finished first among the five teams competing in the Benton Invite, edging Benton Community by one for a 379-380 victory in their first 18-hole outing of the years.

Bohnsack leads Viking golfers in Marion win

The Viking boy’s golf team went to Gardner Golf Course in Marion Tuesday to compete against Marion and South Tama.  The conditions were the best of the year with little wind and the temperatures were around 68 degrees.  The team won the meet shooting 163, Marion was second with 177, and South Tama was third with 193. Austin Bohnsack won the medalist for the first time in his career with a 39 edging out Daniel Janssen who also shot 39 but was the runner-up medalist due to a card back for the hardest handicapped hole.

Lauren Tandy led the Vinton-Shellsburg girls golf team to victory over South Tama on Monday at the par 35 Wildcat Golf Course. Vikings win at South Tama

The Vikings traveled to Tama Monday to compete in a JV/Varsity golf meet with South Tama. The course was in good shape and the temperatures were good though the golfers did have to compete with the gusty winds. The varsity won their meet shooting 161 beating South Tama who shot 187. The junior varsity also won their part of the meet shooting 173 while South Tama shot 288.

Viking golfers place third at Benton Invite

Bryce Shaw and Tyler Stueck medaled for the Vikings, tying for 10th at the Benton Invite golf meet. The Vikings went to Tara Hills in Van Horne for their first competition of the 2015 year Saturday. The conditions were windy and chilly to start the day on the course but the temperatures did improve while the wind stayed gusty. The Vikings placed third shooting a 330. Bryce Shaw and Tyler Stueck medaled for the Vikings tying for tenth both shooting 81.
