Last night the varsity Girls and Boys competed in the first Annual District Team Tournament.  With this being the first time for these teams to compete in an event this style, they did very well   The Varsity teams included: BOYS: Cole Garwood, Nick Stein, Jordan Schoettmer, Ben Wood, Jacob Gosse, Tyler Rasmussen.

Vinton-Shellsburg wrestlers Michael Neal, Max Wehage, Steve Henry and Nick Hyland won first place in the sectional wrestling event on Saturday.

Vinton-Shellsburg senior Kathleen Steffen had been looking for an opportunity to play volleyball on the college level. DMACC coach Patty Harrison had been looking for scrappy setters whose intensity makes them go after the ball on every play.

Five years ago, at the first Pink Night, a few dozen breast cancer survivors gathered at Vinton-Shellsburg High School. Members of the Vikette basketball team escorted them to the court, as the audience applauded their courage.

Because Vinton-Shellsburg is the only Wamac Conference school with a swim team, the Vikings swimmers have joined a new conference known as the North Central Swim Conference.

A season of significant improvement continued Saturday as the Viking swim team travelled to Decorah to participate in the first North Central Swim Conference (NCSC) Meet.

Vinton-Shellsburg faced off with Decorah Thursday evening in their final home meet of the season, falling in a competitive match by the score of 53-39.

Congratulations to Vinton-Shellsburg wrestler Nick Hyland, who finished first at the Wamac wrestling meet Saturday.  Other Vikings who placed during the event at Western Dubuque included Max Wehage, 3rd at 126; and Steve Henry, 4th at Heavyweight.

Former Vinton-Shellsburg standout pitcher Maddie Cornell earned her first win of the 2015 season this week, as her Taylor University Trojans defeated Northwood in Florida.
