Vikette basketball loses to Bobcats 52-45VAN HORNE – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team took to Benton Community High School in Van Horne to take on the Benton Bobcats and the Bobcats earned 52-45 win over the Vikettes.Alyssa Griffith and Ashlie Meyer each led the Vikettes scoring 12 points, Abby Davis scored eight, Sophia Kreutner scored five and Brylee Bruce and Kalie Burke scored four each.

Viking wrestling advances seven to Districts; most since 1972

MANCHESTER – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity wrestling team traveled to West Delaware High School and Seedorff Gymnasium for the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Sectional Wrestling Tournament and advanced seven wrestlers to the District Tournament in Maquoketa, which is the most wrestlers to advance to the District Tournament since Don Holmes was the Viking wrestling coach in 1971-72.

North Central Swim Conference meet in Grinnell

It was a banner day for the Stormin’ Vikes swim team as they registered their highest-ever finish at the North Central Swim Conference meet in Grinnell.  The Vikes defeated Grinnell by 5 points to place second behind Decorah.  On the day, the team turned in five Conference Championship performances out of the eleven events. The day started out well with the 16th-ranked Medley Relay of Schlief, Kirtz, Allsup and Vrba racing to a one second win that they led from start to finish.

Girls Wrestling to Become 11th IGHSAU Sanctioned Sport in 2022-23

 The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Board of Directors voted unanimously to sanction girls wrestling as the organization’s 11th sport. The vote was made at the IGHSAU’s January 12th board of directors meeting and was announced prior to the start of the championship round of the IWCOA Girls State Wrestling Tournament Saturday in Coralville.
