Storming Viking Swimmers Results 11/30/21

Storming Viking Swimming is off to a strong start as the team looks to build on last year’s highly successful season.  On Tuesday, the team split a double dual defeating host Waterloo 94-73 while falling to Cedar Rapids Kennedy 95-74.The Medley Relay – returning three of four swimmers from last season’s state qualifying team – started the night out with a dominating win.

No. 14 Vikettes defeat Knights 70-17VINTON – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team took on the Union Knights in Garrison Fieldhouse on Nov. 29 and earned a 70-17 rout of the Knights.Sophia Kreutner and Alyssa Griffith scored 15 points each, Julia Johnson scored 11, Abby Davis and Kalie Burke scored six each, and Tess Erickson, Peytin Clemensen and Grayce McClintock all scored four each.

No. 14 Vikettes defeat Wolves 52-49CEDAR RAPIDS – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team (2-0, 0-0 WaMaC West) took on the Marion Wolves (1-1, 0-0 WaMaC East) at Johnson Hall in Cedar Rapids and earned a 52-49 win.The Wolves led 23-17 going into the halftime locker room and then the Vikettes outscored the Wolves 35-26 in the second half to win the ballgame 52-49.

No. 14 Vikettes defeat Cardinals 57-50VINTON - The No. 14-ranked Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette basketball team (1-0, 0-0 WaMaC West) took on the Maquoketa Cardinals (0-1, 0-0 WaMaC East) in Garrison Fieldhouse on Nov. 23. The Vikettes overcame a 42-29 deficit in the third quarter and won the game 57-50. Brylee Bruce led the Vikettes with 14 points, Alyssa Griffith had 13 points, Abby Davis scored 12 points, Sophia Kreutner scored 10 points, Ashlie Meyer and Julia Johnson scored four points each, en route to a 57-50 Vikette victory on Opening Night in Garrison Fieldhouse.

Gazette reports Grinnell to join the WaMaC

Cedar Rapids Gazette sports reporter Jeff Linder posted on Twitter this morning that "according to WaMaC Conference sources", the Grinnell Tigers will be joining the league as early as the fall of 2022.The WaMac is currently a 13-team conference since the departure of Central DeWitt after the 2019-20 school year and both Dyersville Beckman and Maquoketa will leave at the end of the current school year, leaving the league with 11.

Vikette volleyball loses to Hawks 3-0 in Regional Final

Vikette volleyball loses to Hawks, 3-0 in Regional FinalCEDAR FALLS – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette volleyball team (19-18) took on the West Delaware Hawks (40-5) at Cedar Falls High School for the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) Class 3A Region 8 Championship match and defeated 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-8).  This was their first Regional Championship match since 2007, when they lost to the Mount Vernon Mustangs.

Moore and Tupa join Central College men’s basketball team

Ryan Moore Ryan Moore, guard, 6-1, 165, fr., Vinton-Shellsburg HS Kole Tupa, forward, 6-5, 185, so., Center Point-Urbana HS Awards/honors: One varsity letter; team Newcomer of the Year Award (2020-21) 2020-21 stats: 7 games, 8.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 stealsMoore and Tupa are members of the Central College men’s basketball team.The Dutch have won 17 conference titles—including 11 since 1975.

VSU Swim Conference Meet 10/23

 Justyce Dominick with 2 individual event medals for the 50 Freestyle 3rd place, 100 Freestyle 2nd The North Central Iowa Swim Conference meet was today in Marshalltown - and VSU had a great meet! Newton, Boone, Decorah, Grinnell, Oskaloosa, Williamsburg and VSU make up the NCISC. The VSU swimmers had season- or personal bests in 21 of 30 swims. Justyce Dominick had a particularly stellar meet - dropping .66 seconds in her 50 Freestyle to take home 3rd place in a powerful field.

Viking cross country 10th at the District MeetDECORAH - The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity cross country team traveled to the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Class 3A Cross Country State Qualifying Meet in Decorah and finished in 10th place.Elijah Blix paced the Vikings, finished 26th overall, and Eli Page finished 46th, Aldin Swanson finished 49th, junior Merritt Bodeker finished 57th, freshman Zach Klopping finished 79th, junior Ian Allsup finished 84th and senior Dawson Sturtz finished 88th.
