Cooper and Gabe Sanders become the first Viking wrestlers to be State finalists since 1990-91DES MOINES – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity wrestling team logged four quarterfinalists and three semifinalists on Day two of the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) State Wrestling Championships at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.Gabe Sanders (152), Cooper Sanders (145), Brady Ortner (170) and Aldin Swanson (113) were the four quarterfinalists.

The Iowa High School Sports Network will broadcast the Individual State Wrestling Tournament semifinal and final rounds from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on February 18-19. Vikette basketball advances to the Regional Final for the first time since 2003-04VINTON – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team (15-8) took on the Wahlert Catholic Golden Eagles (9-14) inside Garrison Fieldhouse on Feb. 16 and earned a 53-49 win over the Golden Eagles.Alyssa Griffith and Sophia Kreutner each scored 11 points, Ashlie Meyer added eight points, Brylee Bruce, Kalie Burke and Abby Davis added four points each, and Julia Johnson added nine.
