NFL rookie sensation had former V-S punter Jay White as college coach

Jay White punts for the VS Alumni team in July. Even though Jay White never made any All-District teams as a kicker/punter for the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings, he later taught himself to kick a football so well that he became a Division 2 All-MIAA Conference punter. Now Jay is teaching college kickers and punters how to kick a ball through the uprights or make it soar high and far into the opposing team’s territory.

Vikings return home after tough road losses to Decorah, West Delaware

  The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings return home this for the final two football games of the 2012 regular season. The 3-4 Vikings faced tough road losses, ­50-7 at Decorah and 34-0 at West Delaware. Union Students assist others

Union High School varsity players Union High School did not have school on Friday so the varsity players volunteered by assisting the students in Waterloo at River Hills with bowling at Cadillac Lanes.   It was a great experience for all involved and has been an annual event for the Knight football team the last several years.

Marion defeats Vikettes, 3-0

Marion's volleyball team beat Vinton-Shellsburg  3-0, Tuesday evening. Scores were: 12-25 19-25 18-25   The Vikettes are 10-18 on the season, and play Clear Creek-Amana at home Thursday. See complete stats HERE.

Vikings among district leaders in many stats; travel to top-ranked Decorah

  The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings, 3-2 on the 2012 season, are also first or second in many categories of statistics among Class 3A District 5 teams. But the Vikings face their toughest test of the year when they travel to top-ranked Decorah tonight.
