CHAD PETTYJOHN, VS BOYS GOLF COACH - May 2nd, 2014 11:41 am
The weather finally broke a little Thursday and the Vikings played well in sloppy conditions to win the triangular meet at the Amana Colonies Golf Course. The Vikings posted a 170 to defeat Marion with 178 and Clear Creek Amana with 186.
Daniel Janssen led the Vikings with a 40 and just missed being the medalist due to a card back. Tyler Stueck was in the running as well with a 41.

It was a miserable night for golf on Thursday when cold (49 degrees), wet and windy weather canceled track meets throughout Iowa (including the planned V-S boys meet).
The Vikette golf team, however, turned in one of its best rounds of the season, defeating Clear Creek-Amana and Don Bosco by more than 30 strokes in a home triangular at the Vinton Country Club.

VINTON TODAY - April 30th, 2014 9:47 am

The weather finally -- and barely -- cooperated with the Vinton-Shellsburg home track meet schedule. A few weeks after the Early Bird event was delayed and then canceled, a few teams gathered in Vinton for the boys and girls invitational on Tuesday evening. Athletes and spectators endured cold, windy damp conditions.
The Vikings won by a large margin, with 200 points, 60 more than the second-place team.

Bowlers competed every weekend in April (except for the Easter weekend) and will finish this weekend.

It was a rough day for the Vikettes Saturday at the Benton Invitational. However, Kaiti Kilpatrick turned in two solid rounds and it was her first time to be medalist for the V-S girls. Mara Jessen bounced back nicely from her first round to break 50. and she had low putts: 31 for 18 holes.
As a team, we had some putting issues and problems with sand bunkers.

CHAD PETTYJOHN, VS BOYS GOLF COACH - April 25th, 2014 10:57 am

LaPorte City Golf Club was a wet place to be Thursday. That did not stop the Vikings from playing well and figuring out how to play in adverse conditions. The golfers made adjustments and came away with a victory over Union and Hudson. Vinton-Shellsburg shot 167 to distance themselves from Hudson 177 and Union 179. Not many players have experience playing in a constant rain, so we were able to have good conversations and suggestions throughout their round as the players made their adjustments both with thought process and swings.
