The Vinton-Shellsburg golf team improved Monday to 6-6 as they defeat the Center Point-Urbana squad 174 to 193.  The Viking struggled a bit with their short game and a few injuries but was able to gain the victory on another windy day at Rolling Acers Golf Course.  Tyler Stueck led the Vikings with a 41 and won the medalist for the meet.  Ross VanderVort from CPU was the runner-up medalist with a 43.

The Viking JV squad also won their meet carding a 187 to CPU’s 226.  Kyle Jorgenson led all JV scores with a 44 and Brandon Geiger was the runner-up medalist for the Vikings with a 47.  Other Viking scores were: Bryce Shaw 44, Austin Bohnsack 44, Dylan Rippel 45, Daniel Janssen 45 and Grant Noren 48.  JV scores were: Cole Smith 48, Brian Stainbrook 48, Austin Carolus 49, and Caleb Bendull 49.

The Vikings will be in action in a varsity meet Thursday at Union.

VS. vs. Williamsburg/Independence

The Vikings hosted Independence and Williamsburg last week on one of the nicer days for golf this year.  The meet turned out to be a close one with Williamsburg winning by two strokes shooting a 159.  The Vikings shot 161 while Independence carded a 174.  The course was pretty full of golfers as Williamsburg and Vinton-Shellsburg also had their JV squads playing.  Williamsburg shot 170 and the Viking squad shot 180.

The varsity medalist was Zach Buch from Williamsburg shooting a 36.  Tyler Stueck was the runner up medalist beating teammate Grant Noren on a card back with 39.  Austin Bohnsack was the JV medalist shooting 40.  Other Viking scores were: Daniel Janssen 40, Dylan Rippel 43, Bryce Shaw 45, Brandon Geiger 49, Kyle Jorgenson 44, Austin Carolus 46, Cole Smith 50, Brian Stainbrook 50, and Caleb Bendull 55.
