Homecoming royalty to be crowned Thursday evening
The Vinton-Shellsburg Homecoming Parade takes place Thursday evening. Line-up on B Avenue between 4th Street and 7th Street begins at 5:30; the parade begins at 6. The route leads through downtown Vinton on 4th Street then back to the high school along Second Avenue. The Powder Puff game and pep rally take place at the football field at approximately 7 p.
Vinton City Clean-Up: Fees, items allowed listed
The Vinton City Clean-Up takes place this weekend.
The event allows residents of the Vinton city limits to take large discard items to the city brush dump for a nominal fee. The expenses not covered by the cost are paid from the city's solid waste fund (collected from residents via monthly utility bills)
Clean-Up days and times are 7 am.

Supervisors hear about proposed mental health changes, gas tax hike
Big changes could be coming to one of the biggest budget areas of Benton County: Its mental health services.
Benton County CPC Mary Williams and Benton County's state legislators, State. Sen. Tim Kapucian and Rep. Dawn Pettengill, spoke to the supervisors during their meeting Tuesday morning about a new state law that seeks to replace the county system with a regional system.

FSB to offer free Paper shredding this weekend
In conjunctions with Vinton's Fall Cleanup, Farmer's Savings Bank and Trust will be offering free paper shredding on October 1st, from 9-12.
Bring your old cancelled checks, credit card statements, bank statements, legal papers, income tax files, medical records, financial records, old bills and invoices.
Shredding helps prevent identity theft.
