Supervisors reject legal representation for former Board of Health

In last week's Benton County Supervisor meeting, the Benton County Attorney Ray Lough brought legal representation to address the former  Board of Health concerns. The representative seemed to imply that upon request the Board of Health could ask for legal representation, paid for by the county. The former Board of Health is still within their allotted time for appealing the Supervisor's decision to terminate the whole board.

Election Day is Tomorrow

The 2023 City/School Election will be held tomorrow,  on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Polling places will be open on Election Day from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.If you'd like to vote early this year, just so that you don't miss it, you can do so by visiting the Auditor's office at the courthouse, on the 2nd Floor of the Benton County Courthouse at 111 E 4th St.

Clipper Corner Recognized for Gifts Of Hope Donation

Mary Barkdoll has made a commitment to help raise awareness of early breast cancer detection and raising thousands of dollars over the years to support Gifts of Hope a fund that provides access to free mammograms, annual women’s health visits and funds to support a breast cancer diagnosis. At the event Mary presented a check from Clipper Corner to Gifts of Hope for $1865.

VGH Recognizes Honorees with 2023 Annual Legacy Awards

Virginia Gay Hospital Health Care Foundation celebrated those in our community who have made significant impacts in philanthropy, service, and support of VGH at the 3rd Annual Legacy Honors Awards ceremony. Honorees at the event were Rita Taylor-Stewart, Cynthia Reinberg, Janice Bray, Julia Meadows, William C. Talen, Sr., Darlys Hulme, Ann Harrison, James Hodgson, and Ted Mann.

HOT Grant Applications are Now being Accepted

The HOT grant is now open! The application can be found on our website, just click HERE. In 2017, the voters of Vinton passed a ballot measure to establish a 7% hotel/motel tax within the City limits. The tax went into effect on July 1, 2018. Per the Code of Iowa, funds collected must be spent on recreation, convention, cultural or entertainment facilities.

HEATING ASSISTANCE LOOKING TO HELP FAMILIES DURING COLD SPELL

November Veteran of the Month Dick Stallman

Our November Veteran of the Month is someone a lot of Benton County residents will likely recognize, Richard (Dick) Stallman! Dick served in the US Army from 1978 to 1982, and then served one more additional year in the Iowa National Guard. He wanted to follow in the footsteps of his older brother who had already been to Vietnam. Dick believes that military service is important; it’ll make a man (or woman) out of you.
