Operation EDITH is a fire-safety program that seeks to encourage the parents of young children to talk to their kids about the importance of fire safety...Exit Drill In The Home, thus the name "EDITH". The purpose is to educate early elementary school aged children and their families about the life-saving value of having a fire escape plan from their homes.

Gifts of Hope gives support to women in the battle against Breast Cancer

Gifts of Hope is a program designed to help women with a very important part of their health care. With kind donations, the group offers free mammograms and diagnostic services are given to those who need financial assistance. It will pay for a clinic visit, testing, and diagnostic analysis of those tests to determine next steps, as well as Pap tests and/or pelvic exams.

Cub Scout Pack 55 makes a stop at VGH Nursing and Rehab to make a delivery

Levi Neuhaus shows Lori Smith and Dawn Stephenson the decorated bags created by Cub Scout Pack 55 Jen Bunten and Lori Smith, Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab Activities Assistant and Activities Director, visited with Cub Scout, Levi Neuhaus from Cub Scouts Pack 55. Levi had a special delivery of some decorated paper bags for the Nursing & Rehab residents. (The residents will be having a sack lunch/supper on Halloween night so they can be ready for the trick or treaters!)Because the scouts created the bags especially for the residents to enjoy, the Pack will earn a Service Badge for this fun community project.

It was an invitation to join friends at the Quad Cities Bix 7 in 2012 that marked the first steps for Regina Malaska in her journey of race events. Since then, she has continued to train, learn, adapt and enjoy various events from 5k’s up to her 50 mile run in 2022.There were of course unexpected obstacles, rewarding milestones, meaningful interactions and beautiful scenery.

The mission of this non-profit organization is to provide veterans with a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to visit monuments and memorials built in honor of their service and sacrifice.

Cattle Congress releases Home Arts & Horticulture results

Angie Wittmer's entry in Open Photography received the Best of Show Honor Home arts and horticulture entries were up significantly at the 2023 National Cattle Congress. New baking competitions contributed to the increase, and one baking contest helped raise funds for Friends of NCC, a non-profit that supports the National Cattle Congress’ mission.Many area residents received awards and best-of-show recognitions.In the Horticulture Division, Jan Jefferson, Dunkerton, was awarded Best of Show Flower; Chris Van Auken, Waterloo, exhibited the Best of Show Fruit; and Bob Durrwachter, Waterloo, received the Best of Show Vegetable recognition.

Clipper Corner holds Annual Fundraising event for Gifts of Hope

In October each year, since 2018, Clipper Corner pulls out all the stops to help the Gifts of Hope Foundation with their fundraising efforts. The shop is in its 37th year and is helping to lend a hand to those who need a little extra help during a breast cancer diagnosis. Clipper Corner in its first year raised $725 and has beat the previous year's fundraising.

Online Groups Extort Minors to Self-Harm/Produce Child Sexual Abuse Material

The FBI has released the following notice. Parents be aware.---The FBI is warning the public of violent online groups deliberately targeting minor victims on publicly available messaging platforms to extort them into recording or live-streaming acts of self-harm and producing child sexual abuse material (CSAM). These groups use threats, blackmail, and manipulation to control the victims into recording or live-streaming self-harm, sexually explicit acts, and/or suicide; the footage is then circulated among members to extort victims further and exert control over them.

They woke up bright and early to attend Tri-State Dairy Foods and Dairy Cattle Judging in Calmar at the NICC Campus. “I didn't feel as prepared as everyone else, but this was my second year doing this competition so when I got there I felt better,” is how Braedon Hepker felt arriving at the competition.
