Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign Seeks Volunteers to Ring The Bell

The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign will start Monday November 20th and go through Saturday, December 23rd 2023. LaPorte City Woman convicted for possession of Methamphetamine and intent

A woman who possessed over 50 grams of actual (pure) methamphetamine pled guilty today in federal court in Cedar Rapids.Rebecca Ann Rose, age 36, from La Porte City, Iowa, was convicted of possessing at least 50 grams of actual (pure) methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it. Evidence at a prior hearing demonstrated that on December 27, 2022, Rose was driving a vehicle in Tipton, Iowa, when law enforcement officers stopped her.

Area residents involved in Accident near Jesup

On Thursday, November 02, 2023 at approximately 6:25 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the 2200 block Black Hawk-Buchanan Avenue, south of Jesup. According to the investigation, a 2001 Dodge Ram operated by Dawson Brown, 19, of Jesup was traveling eastbound on Young Road when the driver lost control while traversing the curve northbound onto Black Hawk-Buchanan Avenue.

Vinton Legion among recipients of Pork Loin for Veteran's Day Celebrations

As Veterans Day approaches, the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation provided community organizations with meals to help keep their Veterans Day celebrations alive in towns across Iowa.On November 1, more than 100 community organizations from throughout the state came to the Iowa Select headquarters in West Des Moines to pick up more than 300 cases of nearly 4,000 pork loins to bring back to their towns for their Veterans Day celebrations.

Benton County Angel Tree is now accepting applications for help with Christmas through December 7. If you receive any kind of assistance from the government and live in Benton County your family is eligible.This year I am training my successor for Angel Tree, Macey Stout who will be taking Angel Tree fully over next year.
