Vinton Lutheran Home plans annual Ice Cream Social, Aug. 3

The Vinton Lutheran Home is celebrating 60+ years of carrying on their mission of “Providing Quality Christian Care and Service” to residents and clients.  They will be hosting the annual Vinton Lutheran Home Ice Cream Social in just a few days!  The Ice Cream Social is on Sunday, August 3rd from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and is open to the public.

Only two days before 'Mary Ingalls - Her Journey' opens at IBSSS

All the cast and crew in these photographs have been working hard to bring you the story of Mary Ingalls.  If you examine the picture you'll find a neighbor, teacher, friend, etc.  But the cast is not limited to residents of Vinton.  There are people traveling from rural Newhall, West Branch and Belle Plaine.  Several people have already made their plans to come, so make plans to join them and us for a great evening of entertainment and education that is topped off with CAKE and LEMONADE.

After 5 Club to hear about Haiti dress project, Aug. 12

The Vinton After 5 Club dinner will take place on Tues. Aug. 12, at 6:15 p.m. at Fourth St. Diner 202 E 4st. The event will feature Rita Moore of Vinton, who will be showing pillow case dresses she is making and sending to Haiti. Our speaker is Lynn Ross from Sun Prairie, Wis. She is a former aroebic instructor who spent years in a wheel chair.

Bereavement support group to meet Aug. 7

The bereavement support group “Meet and Eat” will meet on Thursday, August 7, at noon at the Pizza Ranch in Vinton.  Any one grieving a loss is welcome.  For information phone Frieda Davis at 472-5348.

Ikes to host their 3rd Annual Hog Roast, Aug. 2

On Saturday, August 2nd, the Red Cedar Chapter of the Izaak Walton League will be hosting their 3rd annual Hog Roast. The menu will consist of pulled pork sandwiches from pork provided by the Wiley family and prepared by Scott Bahmann – one of the award winners of last year’s 50th Annual Farm Bureau Cookout Contest at the Iowa State Fair.

Genealogy Workshop

The Benton County Historical Society announces the 2nd genealogy workshop for people who are looking to begin or enhance their research of family history. The first workshop presented by genealogy expert Martha Long created interest in another event in the evening so people not able to attend the first workshop can attend.

Salsa contest; 50-foot banana split at Aug. 7 Farmers Market

Salsa Contest on August 7th at Vinton Farmers Market!  And Blessed Hope Church will be Providing 50 foot Banana Split! The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department Farmer’s market season will once again host the annual Salsa Contest.  The contest will be held at the August 7th market but all interested people need to register by August 5th at the VPRD office or call 472-4164 to sign up.

Children's Bible Story Hour continues on Tuesdays

There will be a Children's Bible Story hour, illustrated with felt art, every Tuesday afternoon, from 1-2 p.m. at the Vinton Community Service Center at 407 A Ave (across from the Laundromat). The program includes stories, songs and crafts. For more information, call Joanne Mayhew at 472-5761. Everyone is welcome; those planning to attend are asked to call in case of inclement weather.

Cattle Feeders Summer Seminar set for Aug. 11

MONTICELLO, Iowa -- Cattle prices are at an all-time high, but high prices don’t necessarily equate to high profits. With tight margins, it’s important for cattle feeders to focus on the management and marketing skills needed to maintain profitability. That’s why Iowa Beef Center at Iowa State University is helping sponsor a Cattle Feeders Summer Seminar next month.

BCCB offers free archery lessons Aug. 6
