IOWA CITY (Aug. 11, 2014) — You may call your backyard forest your “grove” or your “woodland,” or it just may be those trees that shelter your house, but if you are concerned about the quality of your forest and want to learn how you can maximize the benefits your forest provides, please join us.
Trees Forever and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources invite landowners who own woodlands smaller than 15 acres for a day of learning from local specialists. “The focus of this field day is to help landowners learn more about what they can do to manage their backyard forests,” said Carole Teator, Program Director for Trees Forever. “The more you know about your forest, the more benefits it can provide to you, to wildlife, and to generations to come.”
Topics include:
* Forest Health Management
* Alternative Woody Crops
* Backyard Wildlife
* Tree and Shrub Identification
* Invasive Plant Management
This is an outdoor event and will be held rain or shine, so be sure to dress for being outside in the forest. If thunderstorms or severe weather occur, speakers will present indoors. Funding is made available by the Iowa DNR through a grant from the US Forest Service.
