10th annual Tour de Lights set for Dec. 7

The 10th Annual Tour DeLights 5K fund-raising race for the Vinton-Shellsburg cross country and track & field teams will take place Sunday, Dec. 7. The event begins at 5 p.m. at the Vinton fire station.  Click HERE for a registration flyer and more information. 

Flag Disposal Scheduled for November 11th

The Vinton American Legion Post 57 will be holding a Flag Disposal Ceremony on November  11th at 6:30 PM, all are welcome to attend. If you have a flag that is faded or torn please bring it out to the Legion between now and then.

PEO Chapter MZ will meet Monday, November 10

PEO Chapter MZ will meet Monday, November 10, at 1:30, at the home of Bonnie Rohlena assisted by Jackie Schoettmer.  The program will be presented by Bonnie.  Please meet at 1:00 to car pool.

Parent/Child Turkey Shoot Free Throw Contest on Sunday, November 9

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting its annual Parent/Child Turkey Shoot Free Throw Contest on Sunday, November 9th at the Vinton Recreation Center. Starting at 2 PM, teams consisting of a parent and child will compete for their chance to win a turkey courtesy of Fareway in Vinton. There will be three divisions based on the combined age of the team members (44 & Below, 45-54, 55 & Up).

NOVEMBER MEETING SET BY CP HISTORICAL SOCIETY

At its regular meeting October 30, the Center Point Historical Society decided to hold its November meeting on Thursday, the 20th, because the last Thursday of the month is Thanksgiving. The group will meet at 7 p.m. at the Depot Museum and elect officers for 2015. There will be no meeting in December. In other business, the group decided to open the Depot Museum for 2015 on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.

VPRD craft, bake sale set for Nov. 1

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting its annual Fall Craft & Bake Sale this Saturday, November 1st at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center. Each year the number of vendors continue to grow and this year we’ve got a whopping 32 vendors with items for sale. These include, but are not limited to, baked goods and other food items, quilts and rugs, fashion accessories, pottery, cosmetics and many other craft items perfect for your home or to fill those Christmas wish lists.

Better Tomorrows Board to meet November 5th

The Better Tomorrows Board will be meeting on November 5th at the Kirkwood Vinton Center at 12:00 p.m. Topics of discussion will be Financial Report, Succession Plan, Employee Handbook, By-Laws; Community Plan and Level of Excellence Portfolio. Vinton Public Library to host Chad Lewis, November 13th

The Vinton Public Library proudly presents Chad Lewis, author and paranormal investigator. He will be speaking at the library on Thursday November 13th at 6:30 p.m. Chad Lewis is the author of The Iowa Road Guide of Haunted locations, which explores haunted bridges, cemeteries, historic homes, road, theaters, and much more. He is a researcher and lecturer on topics of the strange and unusual.

Church plans special outdoor Halloween celebration at Celebration Park

On Frida,y Oct 31, the Revolution Church is sponsoring an event called Celebrate Life at Celebration Park.  This will take place from 5 - 8pm.  During that event we will be having a Trunk or Treat, bonfire, free hot dogs and hot chocolate.  We are wanting to provide a safe place for children during this event and a positive experience for the whole family.
