In Depth: New hours, chimps and 'Dark Shadows' coming to the Palace

  Due to our schedule glitch at the beginning of the month, we’re trying something new next week! DOUBLE FEATURE Playing in matinees only is “Chimpanzee.” Rated G and running just 78 minutes, this Disneynature docudrama is a wonderful outing for the whole family.  Educational, emotional and entertaining – we went out of our way to add this to the schedule to be sure you wouldn’t miss this lovely film.

In Depth - Men in Black 3 in 3D

  Who wants to watch a movie wherein the bad guy is named Boris the Animal? EVERYBODY! Especially when they learn that the one-armed Boris is an alien freak, and Will Smith (Agent J), Tommy Lee Jones (Agent K), and Josh Brolin (Young Agent K) are taking him on! “Men in Black 3” in fabulous RealD 3D, plays the Palace this Friday, June 15 through Thursday, June 21 at 7 p.

In Depth - Battleship

  “Awww, you sunk my battleship!” Based on the popular Hasbro game, “Battleship” storms the Palace on Friday, June 8 through Thursday, June 14 at 7 p.m., and in a 2 p.m. matinee on Monday, June 11. This action-adventure film, starring Liam Neeson and Rhianna, and featuring a host of alien invaders, will appeal to those who enjoyed the “Transformers” movies.

In Depth: Sold out 'Avengers' to remain on Palace screen another week

“The Avengers 3D” Held Over! Every Show a Sell Out So Far! Continuing Friday, June 1 through Thursday, June 7 is “Marvel’s The Avengers” in 3D.  Nick Fury’s gang of crusaders will battle on the big screen every evening at 7 p.m., and in matinees on Sunday and Monday, June 3 and 4, at 2 p.m. I’m so glad we’re keeping “Avengers” another week.

  Diehard Marvel Comics fans, and the rest of us who just love to watch super hotties fight bad guys, “The Avengers” in stunning RealD 3D storms the Palace silver screen TONIGHT! Playing Friday, May 25 through Thursday, May 31 at 7 p.m. every night, and Monday, May 28 at 2 p.m., this long-awaited action adventure is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action and runs well over two hours at 142 minutes.

In Depth: Three Stooges make return to big screen in modern remake

  Enjoy a lighthearted hour and a half at the Palace this week!  “The Three Stooges” opens Friday, May 18 and runs through Thursday, May 24 at 7 p.m., and Monday, May 21 at 2 p.m. The film is well cast with master impersonations by Sean Hayes, Will Sasso, and Chris Diamantopoulos, who are made to look SO MUCH like the originals the poster fooled us all! The Stooges were raised in an orphanage.

VSHS speech students to perform for public Sunday; free pop and popcorn

The Vinton-Shellsburg Speech and Drama departments, under the direction of Le Cox, Marcy Horst and Eric Upmeyer, will present awards and performances from their 2011-2012 season on Sunday, May 20 at 1 pm at the Palace Theatre.  Presentations will include several State and All-State Speech groups and solo acts.  Awards will be presented to the Best Senior in Speech, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Thespian, as well as many others.

In Depth: 'Lucky One' and VSHS drama students coming to Palace

  Nicholas Sparks fans rejoice!  (Sorry, Titanic lovers.)  “The Lucky One” plays the Palace Friday, May 11 through Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m., and Monday, May 14 at 2 p.m. Date night, chick flick, full on romance.  Sigh.  A marine named Logan (Zac Efron) is saved when he bends over to pick up a stray photograph.

In Depth: 'Wrath of the Titans' and 'Safe House' bring action to Palace screen

  “Wrath of the Titans 3D” plays the Palace this Friday, May 4 through Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m., and Monday, May 7 at 2 p.m.   Action adventure movie-goers will enjoy the over-the-top special effects, as well as the many plot twists and turns. “Wrath of the Titans,” sequel to 2010’s “Clash of the Titans” is rated PG-13 and runs 100 minutes.

In Depth: 'Hunger Games' coming next to Vinton Palace

  “The Hunger Games” are here! District 12 tributes, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) enter the arena on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m.  Palace patrons may catch the show every evening through Thursday, May 3, and Saturday, April 28 and Monday, April 30 at 2 p.m. I must confess to seeing this movie on national opening night! Gerald and I caved to the pleading and gnashing of teeth when we realized we had never exposed Lily and Grace to the “thrills” of a megaplex.
