Curtain Rises On V-S Vocal Music Season

The Vinton-Shellsburg High School vocal music department presented the Fall Choral Preview Tuesday night in the V-S High School auditorium. The night began with a stirring rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” by the Combined Choirs. This was followed by the two songs from the Treble Choir; “Hi Yo Ipsi Naya (A Navajo Song of Happiness) and “Lift Your Hearts!”All-State Choir Try-Out entrants Davia Herger, Brynn Johnson, Katelyn, Humiston, Maddie Beauchamp, Sophia Dilley and Andrew Wirth gave a sneak preview of Saturday’s big day with excerpts ...

Vinton Popcorn to host a Movie Night October 19

Tomorrow night, on October 19th, Vinton Popcorn will be hosting a FREE movie night! The movie showing will be “Hocus Pocus” (rated PG). This will hopefully get everyone in a spooky Halloween mood! Movie show time will be at 6 PM.  There will be free admissions with donations accepted. Concessions will be available before and during the movie.

Union High School Vocal Department taking bookings for Union Carolers

The Union High School Vocal Department is currently taking bookings for the Union Carolers for any holiday event in the Northeast/Eastern Iowa area.  The Union Carolers is a 16-voiced a capella ensemble that will provide up to 20 minutes of holiday music for any festive event. This group was the featured choir with the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony on their Holiday Pops concert in December of 2004 and has established itself throughout the Cedar Valley as a constant each holiday season.

Vinton Shellsburg Middle School to hold Fall Music Concert

On Thursday, October 24, the Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School music department will present a Fall Music Concert introducing some of their 2019-20 performance groups. The concert will open with the Seventh and Eighth Grade Choirs, followed by the premiere performance of the Sixth Grade Band and concluding with the Middle School Jazz Band.

Lady Bug infestation hits Vinton

Wendy Pennington called to tell me about a new phenomenon happening in Vinton. It's a fun infestation brought in from Nancy, a lady in Canada that enjoys painting, and sending out the little ladybugs to whoever will be happy to pass them out, or hide them or just spread a little cheer. All she asks in return is that you visit her Facebook page and leave her a note telling her where you found them.

Kacena Farm and Elevate Dance Team up for some fun on the Farm

Saturday night, found Kacena Farm humming with activity. While some shopped for the perfect pumpkins, others were enjoying pizza and others participated in Elevate Dance's line dancing class. The group of dancers, some experienced and some novices, were quick to jump in and enjoy the music as they learned the dance moves from Alison Bray the instructor for the class.
