Vinton Shellsburg and Benton Community HSAP to Present "Vanished"

The homeschool programs of both Vinton Shellsburg and Benton Community join forces each year for an annual play production. This year the play is called, "Vanished-A Victorian Tale."Performances are Friday evening, May 3 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoon May 5th at 3:00 p.m.Admission is $1 for all ages (or leave a freewill donation greater than that amount and they will appreciate the extra help!)The play will be shown at the Tilford Elementary School Auditorium in Vinton.

The Awful Purdies

The Awful Purdies are coming to Garrison Sunday, April 14th. The Purdies are a talented quintet of female musicians with a unique "new folk" sound dedicated to telling women's stories and promoting women-made music!Their music is written and played from the heart. It’s time for singing and lots of music-making at Tilford.Whether you have a student or grandchild in school, you won't be disappointed when you attend a concert. The following dates are set aside for Tilford elementary to perform.Here are the dates for each grade level. There will be 2 concerts each night; one at 6:30 and one at 7:15.

Farmers Mercantile, a Hidden Gem in Downtown Garrison

I don't know about you, but it seems like sometimes it's just hard to carve out some time to sit and relax.Sure, you can always turn on the TV, but it's not the same as hopping in the car going to a homey place to enjoy some live music.Several years ago, the Fishers saw an opportunity to create such a place in Farmers Mercantile Hall in Garrison.

On April 28th, Darrel Draper of Omaha will present a free program on the Lewis and Clark Expedition, re-enacting Sacagawea’s baby Jean Baptiste Charbonneau as an adult. The presentation will be held at the Andersen Center Point Library basement beginning at 7:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Center Point Historical Society.

Be sure to attend the play, "30 reasons NOT to be in a Play" presented by the Vinton Shellsburg Middle School Theater. The play will be shown on March 29th and 30th at 7:00 p.m. at the Tilford Elementary School Auditorium. Admission is as follows: Adult's $3.00. Area businesses are sponsoring movies at the Palace Theater to support the Benton County Historical Society. On Sunday, March 24, at 2:00 p.m. Farmers Savings Bank and Trust is bringing the movie, "The Blind Side."In April, Wilson-Hite Insurance is bringing the 1939 movie, "The WIzard of Oz." This movie will be shown, Saturday, April 6, at 2:00 p.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a musical with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The story is based on the "coat of many colours" story of Joseph from the Bible's Book of Genesis. Its family-friendly story, familiar themes and catchy music have resulted in numerous stagings.

Bob Black and his band, Banjoy, will be at Farmers Mercantile Hall in Garrison Sunday, March 17th for a St. Patrick's Day performance. They will be joined by guest fiddler Joy Ward (of Castle Ridge) for this show! Come hear some delightful Irish, bluegrass and midwestern roots music!Banjoy is a lively bluegrass band featuring legendary banjoist, Bob Black, a veteran of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys.

Back to the Movies, Disney Edition 2019 to perform Thursday March 14

Come along and join the fun with the Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School Choirs and Show Choir on Thursday, March 14 for “Back to the Movies, Disney Edition 2019” beginning at 7:00 pm in the high school auditorium. The Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Grade Choirs and the VSMS Show Choir will present Disney favorites from 16 different shows.
