Kruetners benefit from the Team Sprit of the V-S Girls Basketball Team

The V-S Girl's Basketball Team scores big against Derecho For many, last week's storm found cleanup something of a task in need of many hands. Sophia Kreutner an upcoming Sophmore at Vinton-Shellsburg, shared images of her family's residence following the storm. As part of the girl's basketball team, some of the players of the team got together on Monday evening to make a plan to help the Brian and Jen Kreutner family.

Viking gridders pitch in for storm clean-up

VINTON — They’re already working hard every morning at practice, but members of the Vinton-Shellsburg football team have been pulling double-duty as many Viking players and coaches have been out in the area helping residents clean-up after Monday’s derecho storm.“We have a lot of kids who have been busting their tails after practice helping our community,” said V-S head coach Jim Womochil.

Berry Jr. Scores Win On Wild Night At Benton County Speedway

The Benton County Speedway hosted 114 race teams on a warm and sultry night that saw a great crowd witness a wildly entertaining night of racing. The Kiss Country IMCA Modifieds saw 21 drivers take the initial green flag with Austin Kuehl all the way from Cave Creek, Arizona lead several laps before BCS regular Troy Cordes took over the top spot. Cordes lead was short lived as one of Iowa's hottest Modified drivers took over the top spot.

Vinton Aquatic Swim Meet holds Competition at the Vinton Pool

Vinton's Aquatic Club hosted Waterloo's USS Destroyers at the pool to compete in 58 different events Saturday morning found members of the Vinton Aquatic Swim team warming up to compete at the swim meet held at the Vinton swimming pool. Hosting Waterloo's USS Destroyers, the two teams competed in 58 different events. The competition began at 9:00 am and wrapped up at Noon. Cordes Back in Victory Lane At The “Bullring”

After a week off due to extreme heat and threat of storms the Benton County Speedway “ the Bullring” was back in action on Sunday night. The six regular weekly classes plus the American Iron Racing Series all raced on a perfectly prepared race track. The KISS Country IMCA Modifieds ran a very clean race with veteran racer Troy Cordes from Dunkerton scoring the win.

Party in Pink 5K Run/Walk

Party in Pink hit the streets on Saturday raising funds for Gifts of Hope Party in Pink's 5K Run/Walk while had a much smaller group of participants this year, with 130 runners and walkers with 40 virtual runners, was down from around 400 who usually participate. Virtual runners chose their own route over the course of this weekend, and ran in different locations. Party in Pink's sponsorships and donations made up for the lower number of participants this year and organizers say the amount normally raised will be down a few thousand from a normal year.

Berry Jr. , Damon Murty, Kyle Olson Among BCS Winners

A beautiful July night greeted a nice crowd at the Benton County Speedway, “The Bullring” on Sunday night. Well over 100 cars took part in the fast paced racing program that saw the final checkered of the night wave before 9:30 pm. The KISS Country IMCA Modifieds saw a 20 car starting field take the green flag, Ethan Braaksma took off from his pole position start and went on to lead the first half of the main event.

Benischek Accepts And Wins Challenge At “The Bullring”

Fisher Towing & Recovery of Garrison, Iowa sponsored the Mid-Season Championships at the Benton County Speedway on Sunday night on a near perfect weather night for racing. The “Bullring” provided everything the race fan could ask for, great racing, close finishes and a thrilling rollover.The KISS Country Modifieds saw Kolin Hibdon charge to the front from a third row start and take command of the main event.
