A shortage of starts didn’t prevent Scott Hogan from winning the Butler Built North Central Region IMCA Modified title.
Along with nine feature wins, the Vinton pilot scored track titles at Benton County Speedway and 34 Raceway.
His regional trophy was presented by IMCA President Kathy Root during the national awards banquet Nov.

November 23, 2010: During each activity season in Iowa, high school students are not only recognized for their accomplishments as performers or as athletes, but also recognized for their efforts in the classroom. The Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District is proud of the efforts our students put forth in the classroom. During the fall 2010 activity season, the following teams or groups have achieved state-wide academic recognition for their efforts.

Monday was not a great day for golf, either the weather or the results, said one of several players who wore jackets, caps with ear covers and other warm apparel on Monday.
But, he said, it's much better than not playing golf at all.
With snow in other parts of Iowa, a few groups of golf enthusiasts played a round on Monday, despite the chill and the strong winds which made the weather feel worse and complicated their driving game.

Several times throughout the 2010 season, the Union Knights found themselves behind. But they always found a way to win.
But their nine-game winning streak ended in first round play-off action Wednesday night. The Knights lost, 22-15, to Clear Creek Amana on a cold, windy night.
CCA was known for its passing game , said Union Coach Joe Hadachek.

The Union football team, undefeated champions of District 5 in Class 3A, hope begin their playoff season tonight. The Knights host Clear Creek-Amana at 7:30 p.m. Although CCA is 5-4 on the season, they play in the tough District 6 that includes Solon and Williamsburg, two of the top teams in the state.
If Union wins tonight, their next two opponents will likely include Solon, Williamsburg, or both.

VINTON – Nine feature wins and bonus points from a pair of track titles paved the way for Scott Hogan’s career first IMCA Modified regional crown.
The veteran driver from Vinton topped standings at both his hometown Benton County Speedway and 34 Raceway in West Burlington. Bonus points equaling average weekly car counts at each of the two tracks were added to his point total for the regular season, which ended Sept.
