Gene Spicer

Gene Spicer VINTON: Gene Andrew Spicer passed away January 12, 2016 at Unity Point Hospice in Cedar Rapids.  Gene was born on September 24, 1928 rural Palo to Ivan Spicer and Alta (Comp) Spicer Mitchell.  He went to grade school at Stoney Point Country School and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids.  On January 28, 1947 Gene married Betty JoAnn Randall.

Hazel Senft VINTON: Hazel (Jack) Senft of Vinton and formerly of Cedar Rapids died on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Winsor Manor in Vinton.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Philips Funeral Home, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m., until service time. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg.

Frances J. Kolsrud

Frances J. Kolsrud ATKINS:  Frances J. Kolsrud, 65 of Atkins and formerly of Norway died Monday, January 11, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.      Funeral Services for Frances will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton with Chaplain Joe Cain of Hospice of Mercy officiating.

Josephine M. Erickson

Josephine M. Erickson VINTON – Josephine M. Erickson, 94, died Sunday, January 10, 2016, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton with Rev. Mark C. Urlaub officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time, also at the church.

Jim McNulty     WATKINS:  Jim McNulty, 62 died Friday, January 8, 2016 at his rural Watkins home.       A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Newhall with Father Tom McDermott as Celebrant.  Interment will be held at St. Patrick and St.

Shelley Kay (Hobbs) Jenney

WATERLOO: Shelley Kay (Hobbs) Jenney, 57, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo following a long illness.     The daughter of Warren Lee and Karen (Johnson) Hobbs, she was born July 6, 1958 in Vinton.     She is survived by her son, Kevin Allan Jenney of Evansdale; her sister, Kristy Kramer of Urbana; her brother, Doug Hobbs of North Liberty; her parents, Warren and Karen Hobbs of Cedar Rapids; and her longtime partner, Doug Holtz of Waterloo.

Richard (Rich) Dale Hulme

Richard (Rich) Dale Hulme of Katy, Texas passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, with his loving family at his side. He died following a two year illness with cancer. His family is hosting a Celebration of Life visitation on Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the North Tama Activity Center in Traer, Iowa.

Ronald Alan 'Rajj' James

Ronald Alan James of Mount Auburn, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. Services will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Mount Auburn United Methodist Church, with Pastor Michael Ferguson officiating. Ron is survived by his wife, Belinda Christensen James; his children, Jeremie Hecht, Amber Callanan, Simon Thomas Callanan and Matthew Callanan; three brothers, Bill James, Don James and Clarence (Bud) James; two sisters, Cheryl Childs and Pam Carnes; and his mother, Pauline James.
