Edward Gayle Smith

Edward Gayle Smith, age 93, died Sunday, May 30, 2021, at the Keystone Care Center, Keystone following an extended illness. Private family services will be held at the Keystone Cemetery.  Ed was born October 28, 1927, to Joseph and Martha (Lamar) Smith and graduated from Ottumwa High School. He served in WWII (Army) 1946-48. On Nov. 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Doris (Deburn).

Adam Hobert Smalley

Adam Hobert Smalley, 52, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Belle Plaine Specialty Care, Belle Plaine.Adam was born in Grantham, OR, the son of Howard and Tressie (Jarvis) Smalley. While Adam was young, he moved with his family to Cedar Rapids, IA where he attended Jefferson High School. Then moving to Luzerne, IA where he attended Belle Plaine High School.

Gary L. Halva

Gary L. Halva, 75, of West Union, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Mayo Hospital in Rochester, Minn. He was born Sept. 29, 1945, to Rudy and Dortha (Garlick) Halva. Gary graduated from Vinton High School in 1963 and went on to earn his B.A. in elementary education and his master's in Elementary counseling from the University of Northern Iowa.Surviving Gary are his wife of 53 years, Karen Halva of West Union, Iowa; daughter, Jessica Salvo of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Gary Lee Schuldt

Gary Lee Schuldt, 74, died suddenly in his home on May 16, 2021, in Tucson, Ariz.Gary was born on July 15, 1946, in Vinton, Iowa, son of Lester and Pearl (Alpers) Schuldt. He graduated from Van Horne High School in 1964 and subsequently attended Wartburg College. He joined the U.S. Navy in October of 1969, served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1972.

Nancy Louise (Winsor) Flickinger

Nancy Louise (Winsor) Flickinger,74, of Vinton, passed away peacefully at her home on May 23, 2021 with family by her side.She was born November 23, 1946 in Brandon, Iowa the daughter of Richard Floyd Winsor and Wanda Louise Fuller. She graduated from Vinton Community School in 1965, and was the City Clerk for the City of Garrison, Iowa for many years.

Darlene “Babi” M. Breja

Darlene "Babi" M. Breja, 89, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away May 28, 2021 at Keystone Care Center surrounded by family.Darlene was born August 6, 1931 on the family farm rural Chelsea, to John and Elsie Koutney. She attended country school in Chelsea, graduated from South Tama High School and later Paris Beauty School. Babi grew up with her 3 sisters who she adored.

Warren B. Hendryx

Warren B. Hendryx of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Parkview Randallia Hospital. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 11, 1932, to Dick J. and Mabel (Smith) Hendryx who predeceased him. He grew up in eastern Iowa having lived in the towns of Alburnett, Tama, and finally in Vinton, where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949.

Monette McVay

Monette McVay, 71, of Norway, IA passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, IA.Monette was born December 10, 1949 to Nathan and Hazel (Ford) Coates in Port St. Joe, FL. She graduated in 1968 from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. Monette married Richard McVay on October 23, 1976 in Moline, IL. Together they raised their children in Norway, IA where she worked at Ray Grocery Store, then Frontier for about 15 years.

Ruth Scheetz

Ruth Scheetz, 95, of Luzerne, IA passed away Monday, May 24, 2021 at Windsor Manor, Vinton, IA.Ruth was born October 24, 1925 to August and Elizabeth (Kranz) Janssen on the family farm near Vinton, IA. She graduated from Newhall High School in 1943 and worked for a short time following school. Ruth married Elmer Scheetz on January 4, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church, Newhall.

Charlotte Fye

Charlotte Fye was ten days shy of her 94th birthday when she passed away on May 18.Charlotte was married to David Fye in 1947. The couple had six children: Mona (Pytr) Knoll, John (deceased), Peg (David) O’Rourke, Robbie (Leon) Fye Leach, Tammy (Ron) Carolan and Lissa (Loren) Lippmann. She found joy in her eleven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
