Ruth Evelyn (Beggs) Failor was born on July 30, 1931, in Sioux City, Iowa to Vivian Irene (Cobb) Beggs and John Elroy Beggs, their third child. She was born premature, weighing just under four pounds at birth. She was strong-willed and determined from the start. Ruth survived birth but not without subsequent complications. Due to her small size, she was placed in an incubator.

Nancy Jo Kindred, 67, of Palo, died on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at St. Luke’s following a short illness. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday at the Palo Community Center. Burial will be held at a later date.  Teahen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.Nancy is survived by her husband, Gary; three sons, Matthew (Robyn) Morris of Central City, Joseph (Heather) Morris of Quasqueton, and Jeremiah Morris (Karen Stearns) of Palo; eight grandchildren, Kanan, Kolby, Kashden, Kingsley, Rhyley, Rhyker, Rhyett, and Jeffrey; great grandson, Weston; two brothers, Roger (Bonnie) Bentley of Shellsburg, and Gordon Wayne (Deanna) Bentley of Amber, OK; brother in-law, Jerry (Lisa) Kindred of Palo and many nieces and nephews.

Lori Ann Hunter, 60, of Independence, passed Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Mercy One Waterloo Medical Center. She was born February 22, 1962, in Independence, the daughter of Glen and Barbara Riggle Larson.She was a 1980 graduate of Independence High School; she received her Bachelor's Degree from the United States Air Force in 2000; and her Master's Degree in Business from Americus University, Washington DC, in 2004.

Bonita “Bonnie” Louise Ott, 75, of Sunnycrest Manor in Dubuque, Iowa, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, April 13, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.She was born on Dec. 10, 1946, in Sandusky, Ohio, and graduated from St Mary’s Catholic High School in 1964.In 1965, she entered the Dominican Convent, known as Sister Elise.

Betty Lahue, 96, died Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the ABCM Rehabilitation Center in Independence, IA. Services: 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home in Vinton. Burial: Urbana Cemetery, Urbana, IA. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.Betty is survived by three daughters: Catherine Hoppe, Terry Manning and Sandi (Steve) Elgin; son, Tracy (Debb) Lahue; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

Mark Allen Coleman, 67, of Shellsburg, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022, in his home surrounded by his loving family.  In honor of Mark’s love of life, a Celebration of Life gathering will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.  Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.

Cecil “Buck” McClung, 61, of Vinton died Monday, April 25, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home by Elder Lori McClung. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery,Vinton. Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the funeral home.Buck is survived by his wife, Rhonda; two sons: Bart (Niki) Bruce and Cecil McClung; three daughters: Cody Bruce, Rose McClung and Jessica (Ben) Merino; nine grandchildren: Tyler and Bryce Rasmussen, Baylee, Brylee and Brady Bruce, Cecil “CJ”, Jonathan and Lucie McClung and Maximus Merino; mother, Edna McClung of New Bern, NC; three sisters: Ruby (Jim) Scheer, New Bern, NC, Sally (Rex) Kerr, Marion, AR and Irene McClung, West Memphis, AR; brother, Eddie (Lori) McClung, Taylorville, IL.

Thelma June Rohlena, 86, of Norway, died Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Celebration of Life services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, with fellowship following at Brosh Chapel.

Maxine Marie Siemens, 93 of La Porte City, went home to be with the Lord peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, April 22, 2022.She was born September 17, 1928 in Traer, daughter of Alexander and Louise (Yanda) Thompson. She married Wallace C. Siemens June 27, 1951, he preceded her in death on  August 12, 1974.Maxine was a loving wife and mother to her eight children, devoting her entire life to them and being there for so many others.

Melvin Charles McElwee, 67, of Armstrong, IA met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face early Friday morning, April 22, 2022 at Mayo Health Systems – Fairmont, MN.Melvin was born February 2, 1955 to Charles Layton and Hazel Mae McElwee in Fairmont, MN. He accepted Jesus as his Savior at Vacation Bible School at the Free Methodist Church, Armstrong, IA when he was 8 years old and was a faithful follower of Christ his entire life.
