Jeanette Henry has served proudly as part of the VFW for many years. She is the President of the Smith-Geater VFW Post #8884 Auxiliary but as of June 6, 2021 she added the Department of Iowa VFW Auxiliary President position to her resume'. This is the first time that Vinton has had this honor.Jeanette Henry was honored on Saturday at the new VFW Post 8884 and was joined by several members of VFW Auxiliary Local, District and Department of Iowa from all across the state.

Vinton Lions Club wrapped up their 100 Anniversary Celebration with a lunch and visiting Lions dignitaries at the Vinton Country Club on July 7th. Keynote Speaker, Past International Director Mark Hintzmann from Watertown, WI entertained Lions members with his experiences as a Lion through the years that have impacted him and elevated his commitment to membership.

Lions Club of Vinton, Iowa, organized July 5, 1921-only four years after first Lions club ever was formed. As such Vinton Lions Club is one of oldest in Iowa-and worldwide!Vinton Lions Charter Night held Monday, October 17, 1921, with 30 charter members. Among them was F. E. (Francis) Palmer, 11th superintendent of Iowa School for the Blind. Four years later, Helen Keller gave Lions their primary mission, urging them to be "Knights of the Blind.
BENTON DEVELOPMENT GROUP - July 7th, 2021 5:28 pm

Benton Development Group worked with the cities of Atkins and Belle Plaine to submit applications for the most recent round of Catalyst Grants and each community received $100,000 in the most recent awards. The two $100,000 grants in the most recent round, and a previous grant award to Shellsburg, raises the Catalyst Grant total received by Benton County communities to $300,000.

A man who accessed child pornography was sentenced on June 29, 2021, to ten years in federal prison.Jared Daily, age 35, of Belle Plaine, Iowa, received the sentence after a January 11, 2021 guilty plea to one count of accessing child pornography. At the plea hearing, Daily admitted that, between January and June 2020, he used a cell phone to access child pornography, including depictions of prepubescent children.

The Vinton Public Library had a little bit of a facelift in their children's area on the lower level of the library. Artists from the local Vinton Guild of Fine Arts were invited by Janette McMahon of the Vinton Public Library to paint a couple of murals downstairs as well as one of the pillars. The first of the two has been completed. With the help of the Guild, area artists left to right.
