This is a joint press release from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Iowa Department of Public Health and the State Fire Marshal's office.As much as we love fireworks displays, drifting smoke can cause breathing problems for some and drought conditions may pose additional risks this year.Dry conditions and the threat of fires may cause some towns to take extra precautions with fireworks displays.

The Mystery is over; Old Hospital Pub Moves Closer to Opening

It won't be long now... One of the most talked about parts of the redevelopment project of the old Iowa Braille School campus is nearing completion, and it looks to be something both new and exciting. The Old Hospital Pub is slated to open later this summer and project manager - and Vinton native - Bonnie Xanadu, a representative of the Bari Group, is excited about the long-awaited opening.

Vinton Emergency Service Facility Construction Site Underway

Just last summer the city council heard about plans to build a new Vinton  Emergency Services Facility. The location of the new facility will be on the corner of Highway 218/South K Ave. and 13th St.. or on the west edge of the former Braille School Property. The new facility would place all of the emergency services under one roof. Almost two years ago a committee with members of the Vinton Police Department, Vinton Fire Department, and North Benton Ambulance came together and interviewed several firms to design the facility.

Party in the Park kicks off following a brief rain shower

A picture is worth a thousand words Neither rain, nor the threat of it stopped events in downtown Vinton on Thursday evening. As they have done for several years, Farmers Savings Bank & Trust staff served the Vinton community a picnic meal. The Pingenot's entertained children, and adults with their bubble wands in the lawn behind the tent while everyone waited for the parade to begin.

Farm Bureau members donate to Disaster Recovery Coalition

Matthew Werner presents a check for $2300 to Scott Hansen, Co-chair of the Benton County Disaster Recovery Coalition. Also representing the Coalition are Linda Fischer, Public Information Officer, and Tina Eden, Secretary. The Benton County Farm Bureau organization, and its members, donate to the Benton County Disaster Recovery Coalition. The Farm Bureau board of directors reached out to the members in Benton County with an offer to match their donations, up to $1,000, made to the Coalition. Benton County Farm Bureau leader Matt Werner was happy to present to the group a total of $2,350 in donations.

Benton County Cattlemen’s Association Cooks Lunch

Benton County Cattlemen's Association brought lunch to area school children on Thursday. The Benton County Cattlemen’s Association treated area students with a grilled hamburger as part of their lunch on Thursday. Carlson Shares with Vinton Kiwanis his Brazil Trip to visit Farmers there

Brian Carlson shares his experience visiting farms in Brazil Brian Carlson, a Benton County farmer, was able to be part of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Brazil Market Study trip in 2020. Carlson said that he has wanted to visit Brazil for decades, so he applied to be part of the trip and was selected to be included. Part of the subsidized trip agreement with Farm Bureau is that each participant shares their experience with four groups upon their return.

DECAT/CPPC helps law enforcement "Catch" kids doing good

Tyler Brandt, Deputy Sheriff/ School Resource Officer Benton Co. Sheriff’s Dept. The local DECAT / CPPC group Flourishing Families have donated sports equipment which included footballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, basketballs, playground balls and Frisbee disks to the Benton and Iowa County sheriff’s Offices and Police Departments within the two counties.   The purpose is to encourage good relationships between the local law enforcement and the children in their community.

American Legion Retires Flags

Craig Streeter and Post Commander Ron Albright drape flags set to be disposed of. The George G. Luckey Post 57 American Legion held their annual flag disposal ceremony on Monday evening which was also Flag Day. All of the flags set to be destroyed were the stars and stripes except one flag for the state of Iowa. Part of the ceremony reads, “A Flag may be a flimsy bit of printed gauze or a beautiful banner of the finest silk.

Lions Trailer to be downtown Vinton, Thursday, June 17 and at Party in the Park

Vinton Lions pays the annual fees for Vinton Boy Scouts Troop 47 charter since 1932, many now Lions Vinton Lions have paid the annual fees for the charter of Vinton Boy ScoutsTroop 47 since 1932.
