Car Accident Friday night

Accident Friday night on Hwy 150 Friday night a single car accident on Highway 150, north of Vinton resulted in at least one injury. The car could be seen on Saturday morning wrapped around a utility pole near the Izaak Walton League. Crews removed the car Saturday morning. A boom truck was brought to support the broken electric pole until it could be replaced.No further information is available at this time.

Vinton Fire Department Collects for MDA

Saturday found the Vinton Fire Department collecting funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association with their "Fill the Boot" campaign. Residents were able to donate to the fund by dropping a donation in the boot of local firemen who volunteered to collect the donations. The group were at the intersection of C Ave. and 4th St. on Saturday morning.

Update: Keystone residents given until Friday to remove dogs

A fundraiser has been set up to help pay legal fees of the dog owners who intend to fight to keep their pets. If you would like to donate, the dog owners would appreciate it. Updated:Residents who own Pitbulls in the city of Keystone, were served with a Notice of Infraction and ordered to remove their dogs within 3 days, on the Friday afternoon of Labor Day weekend.

Tiny Reader not waiting to enjoy her Library Books

When you're a little girl just along for the ride, sometimes "Waiting is not Easy!"  Nova Feltis visited the Vinton Public Library with mom this week and just couldn't wait to get home to read her library books.

Vinton Legion Retires Tattered and Worn Out Flags

Flags are draped over a wire frame in preparation for disposal Thank you to the George G. Luckey Post of the American Legion in Vinton for providing a needed service to the community. A service that many will not need often, but when you do, the Legion members can help you out. When worn-out, tattered or flags that had touched the ground need to be disposed of with dignity, a retirement ceremony is necessary. The ceremony for disposal was approved by the Legion in 1937.

2022 Iowa State Fair Skillathon Contest Results include Benton County Students

This year the Iowa State Fair hosted 213 youth from 63 counties to participate in the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Skillathons for dairy, meat goat, sheep and swine. Each skillathon team was comprised of three individuals and included five stations where youth worked together to solve problems and identify dairy, meat goat, swine or sheep production components.
