VS Middle School students invited to Friday tailgate

The Benton County Above the Influence Coalition is inviting all VS Middle School students to a Tailgate party this Friday afternoon, before the first high school home football games of the season.  There will be free hot dogs, games, music and fun from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.  All VSMS students are invited. 

Post-Prom Committee to meet tonight

There will be a Post Prom Committee meeting at Windsor Manor today at 6 pm.

Sportsmen's Night Out set for Oct. 4 at Oak Grove Church

Oak Grove Church is excited to host a "Sportsmen's Night Out" , serving a full course ribeye steak meal on Sunday October 4 at 6 p.m.  Merchant's Grilling will be doing the steaks. We have a inspiring evening planned for the men including the main speaker John Karrick ; US Navy Submarine Veteran, Baptist Preacher, African Missionary,   Iowa Traditional Bow Hunter.

Fundraiser to help Feed the World, Tonight, Wednesday, August 26

Vinton Feeds the World, Wednesday, August 26, from 5-7 p.m.   A pasta dinner with marinara or alfredo sauce & garlic bread will be held. This event is sponsored by Pizza Hut and Thrivent. Salads and desserts will be provided by Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Vinton Presbyterian Church and Blessed Hope Church.   This will be a Free Will donation.

Fall Blow-Out: VS athletes invite community as sports season begins

Join us on Friday, August 21, as we kick-off a new school year and fall sports season at our annual Fall Sports Blowout.  The schedule of events is as follows: 3:30 - 4:00 p.m. -  9th/10th Volleyball Scrimmage - High School Gym 4:00 - 4:45 p.m. -  Varsity Volleyball Scrimmage - High School Gym 5:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Annual Progressive Farm Safety Day set for Sept. 20

A safety day for any Benton County student in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade is being planned for Saturday, September 19. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Vinton. The Benton County Extension Service in conjunction with Progressive Agriculture, Benton County Farm Bureau, Vinton-Shellsburg FFA, Belle Plaine FFA, Benton Community FFA, Unity Point Clinic (Vinton & Shellsburg Family Practice), and Benton County beef, pork and dairy commodity groups are sponsoring the event.

Windsor Manor plans National Dog day event, photo contest

On National Dog Day, next Wednesday, Aug. 26, Windsor Manor employees and residents will celebrate with a foot-long hot dog dinner. The facility's managers also invite area residents to enter a picture of their dog in a "cutest dog" photo contest.  Staff will be serving foot-long hot dogs with all the fixins’, chips, fruit, drinks and of course, dessert.

Coloring book fund-raiser for arts guild to take place during art fest

Representatives from the Cedar Rapdis Barnes & Noble book store will be selling coloring books and more as part of the Vinton Guild of the Fine Arts show in Celebration Park on August 29. Coloring is a great, relaxing way to be creative with a calming, meditative effect. Stop by to purchase your coloring books, colored pencils, and pens and support the beautification of our community, as Barnes & Noble will be donating a percentage of each purchase to the Art Guild.

VPRD 2-person best shot golf meet set for Aug. 29

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will once again be hosting its annual Two-Person Best Shot Golf Tournament on Saturday, August 29th. This 18-hole tournament will take place at the Vinton Country Club and costs $60 per team. This fee includes green fees, flight prizes, stake prizes, lunch and a grab bag. Tee times are either 8 AM or 1 PM and only the first 20 teams per tee time are guaranteed a spot.
