Vikings basketball loses to Bobcats 68-49VAN HORNE – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity basketball team (0-6, 0-1 WaMaC West) took on the Benton Community Bobcats at Benton Community High School in Van Horne on Dec. 17 and the Bobcats earned a 68-49 win over the Vikings with Bobcat junior guard Evan Daugherty highlighting the scoring, with 27 points and Viking sophomore guard Cam Dunbar highlighted the Viking scoring attack with 21 points.

Vikettes stomp Trojans 83-15

Vikettes defeat Trojans 83-15VINTON – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team (7-3, 1-1 WaMaC West) took on the South Tama County Trojans (1-7, 0-2 WaMaC West) inside Garrison Fieldhouse on Dec. 21 in the last basketball game before Christmas break and stomped the Trojans 83-15, with Alyssa Griffith setting the tone early and often with 20 points.

Bobcats defeat Vikettes 50-39

LadyCats defeat Vikettes 50-39VINTON – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team took on the Benton Bobcats in Garrison Fieldhouse on Dec. 17 and the Bobcats earned a 50-39 win over the Vikettes.  The Vikettes took a 12-10 lead through one period, the Bobcats led 22-19 at the halftime.  The Ashlie Meyer led the Vikettes with 14 points, Sophia Kreutner and Alyssa Griffith scored six each, Brylee Bruce and Kalie Burke scored five each and Julia Johnson scored three.

Stormin' Vikes take down Grinnell, Mason City and Waterloo

The Stormin’ Vikes wrapped up an arduous six-day period Friday night with a long trip up to Decorah. Beginning on Saturday with the Grinnell invitational, followed up by an invitational win Tuesday in Williamsburg, the squad concluded with a long bus ride and a strong second place finish. Though not hitting their best times of the year in most races, the swimmers did enough to take down Grinnell, Mason City and Waterloo.

Spartans defeat Vikings 58-23SOLON – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity basketball team (0-4) took on the Solon Spartans (2-2) and the Spartans earned a 58-23 win over the Vikings at Solon High School on Dec. 10.Gunnar Moen led the Vikings with five points, Kaden Kingsbury and Cam Dunbar scored four each, Reese Truax hit one three-pointer, Benett Rickels, Austin Kemp and Kail Evans scored two points each and Max Vasquez hit one free throw.

Mount Vernon Mustangs defeat #11 Vikettes 45-41MOUNT VERNON – The No. 11-ranked Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team took on the Mount Vernon Mustangs and the Mustangs earned a 45-41 win at Mount Vernon High School on Dec. 14.Alyssa Griffith led the Vikettes with 11 points, Sophia Kreutner scored eight, Brylee Bruce and Kalie Burke scored six each, Abby Davis scored five, Julia Johnson scored three and Ashlie Meyer scored two.

Williamsburg Swim Results

Tuesday night the Stormin’ Vikes travelled to Williamsburg for a showdown with Wa-Ma-C rival Williamsburg along with Oskaloosa and Centerville.  What was anticipated to be a tight battle with a significantly improved Williamsburg squad ended up as a solid victory for Vinton-Shellsburg.  With a number of guys stepping up and swimming new events for the first time to fill out the line-up, the Stomin Vikes saw a number of time drops and big performances.
