All first place finishers earned the chance to compete Nov. 17, at Westdale Bowling Center in Cedar Rapids.

While only seen in public for a couple of hours on a few Friday nights, the Vinton-Shellsburg High School cheerleaders have each spent nearly 200 hours this season (including activities during the summer) in practices, clinics (including one in Ames), bus rides, community service activities such as the Step Up For Down Syndrome Walk.

Senior Night, for high school sports teams, is often a chance to honor players for contributions to the team that may not show up on the scoreboard or stat sheets. It's an opportunity to recognize the effort a player brings to practice and the way that player inspires others by their loyalty, determination and desire.
