Sports : Vinton-Shellsburg Trap Team has Record Setting Day on Way to 1st Place Finish

The Vinton-Shellsburg Trap team is peaking at just the right time as they prepare for the Iowa High School State Trap Meet June 4th in Cedar Falls. Saturday they participated in two meets. Xavier held a shoot in the morning where V-S Black squad shot a team high of 220/250 targets with Bryce Burroughs leading the team with his 3rd perfect 25/25 and a score of 49/50, placing him in the top 5 individuals for the day. This score was good enough to create a tie between Montezuma and V-S Balck for 4th place. V-S Gold also shot their high score of the year with a 200/250.

The highlights of the day came in the afternoon with Mt. Vernon hosting the meet. The V-S Black squad shot another Team record hitting 234/250 targets giving them the overall top score for the day and 1st place. Wyatt Lebeda and Curtis Geiger lead the squads each shooting perfect 25/25 and a score of 48/50. Tie breaking criteria allowed Curtis Geiger to have the 2nd best individual score of the afternoon. Not only did the Black squad set records but V-S Gold Shot a squad record of 208/250 with Senior member Logan Merchant leading the charge with a 45/50. This was followed by the V-S Red Squad shooting a 203, another team record. The Gold and Red Squads place 12th and 13th respectably out of 28 squads.
