Welcome to another episode of Views from the Grandstands from the birthplace of the IMCA Modified. Sunday's show was sponsored by the Marion Cottrell family as an annual tribute to the Stock Car division. Before we get to tonight's festivities a moment of silence was observed for the loss of long-time track preparer/maintenance, flagman, and driver Dwayne Burkey on Saturday.

The track was very dusty for hot laps and before we started the heat races, they laid down a layer of water to help keep the track damp. I was surprised that this did not have any ill effects of the track. The first feature was the IMCA Sport Compacts with 18 cars on hand tonight. Duayne Herb was the early leader until Bryce Bailey passed Herb on lap 2. Gary Peiffer was the victim of good fortune when Bailey and Herb got together in turn 4 and took over the top spot. Brad Chandler would make his way by Peiffer a few short laps later and would go on to win the feature. The red flag flew at the end of the race as Louis Trachta rolled over on the backstretch. Peiffer took second with Bailey, Merv Chandler, and James Stevens the top 5. Heat races were won by Jacob McVey, Stevens, and Bailey.

Next up were the Hobby Stocks with 18 cars on hand tonight. Nathan Christie took the early lead, but gave it up shortly to Kyle Parizek. Parizek would lead just past halfway until Justin Lichty made his way around Parizek. Lichty would go on to take the checkers with Parizek in second, Vince Bucholz, Rod Grother, and Scott Pippert the top 5. Heat race winners were Grother, Justin Stander, and Lichty.

The Sport Mods were next with 27 cars here Sunday. It would take one B-Main to determine the 20-car feature field. By lap 2, Danny Dvorak made his way past early race leader Austin Lucas and would take the checkered flag. Behind Dvorak was Rod McDonald, Jim Buhlman, Lucas, and Ken Kositsky. Heat races were won by Lucas, Buhlman, Dvorak, and McDonald. B-Main feature winner was McDonald.

The Modifieds were up next with 15 cars on hand. Mike Burbridge took off from the outside pole and looked like the man to beat. Joe Docekal made his way under Burbridge when he bobbled going into turns 1 and 2 on lap 15. Docekal would take the win with Scott Hogan second. Chris Snyder, Burbridge, and Jeff Streeter rounded out the top 5. Heat races were won by Docekal and John Thimmesch.

The final race of the night was the Marion Cottrell Memorial race for IMCA Stock Cars. It would be a battle of the fittest as only 7 cars were running at the end of the feature from the 18 cars that started the race. It took three times before we even got one lap scored in the books. Norman Chesmore was the early leader. On lap 11, the Chelsea Charger, Damon Murty passed Chesmore and went on score the victory. Phil Holtz finished in second with Justin Temeyer, Chesmore, and Mike Galli the top 5. Heat races were won by Paul Shepherd, Curtis Roster, and Murty.

The final checkers flew at 9:21. That's it for now and we'll see you, In the Grandstands.
