Sports : Hammer wins long jump; V-S girls finish seventh at Iowa Valley

The Vinton-Shellsburg girls’ track team picked up one gold medal and seventh-place team finish Monday night at Iowa Valley’s Ruth Ahrens’ Invitational.

Vikette junior Erika Hammer picked up a first-place finish in the long jump, as the junior went 14 feet, five inches to outdistance to the field in the event.

Coach Heather Kalous’ Vikettes finished the meet with 64 team points. Williamsburg won the team title with 130 points, with Grinnell coming in second with 126.5 Vinton Today will run complete meet results as soon as they are available.

The Vikettes get back it Friday night in Van Horne at Benton Invitational, beginning at 4:45 p.m. Monday the Vikettes take the road again, headed north to the Hudson Relays.
