Sports : Viking golfers take third at La Porte City

Coach Scott Tandy’s Vinton-Shellsburg boys’ golfers finished third in a non-conference quadrangular Tuesday.

The Vikings finished with a nine-hole team score of 192. Union won the meet with a 160, while Don Bosco was second with a 174 and Dunkerton was fourth with a 199.

Don Bosco’s Carson Barron was meet medalist with a 33, while Union’s Mike Wauters was runner-up with a 39.

Alex Jessen led the Vikings with a 44. Seth Inman fired a 46, Jake Dyson a 50, and Daniel Ervin a 52 to round out the Viking scoring. Brady Gerber added a 58 and Gunner Tranel a 64 to round out the Viking line-up.

The Vikings will host Independence and Marion Thursday at Wildcat in a WaMaC Conference triangular, beginning at 4 p.m., then head to Tara Hills Saturday for the Benton Invitational, teeing-off at 8:30 a.m.
