A pair of first-place finishes and good balance led to a third-place tie for the Vinton-Shellsburg Viking boys’ track team Tuesday night at Iowa Valley’s Ruth Ahrens’ Invitational.
Coach Aric Chvala’s Vikings finished deadlocked for third with Clear Creek-Amana with 80 points. Solon won the meet with 137 points, while Benton Community was second with 83.
Viking senior Taylor Leyden won the long jump, sailing 18 feet, 10 and half inches to grab gold, while the Vikings’ 4x100 relay also won in a time of 44.92. Vinton Today will run complete meet results when they are available.
The Vikings are back in action Friday as they travel to Van Horne for the Benton Invitational. Field events begin at 4:45. Next Tuesday the Vikes are on the road at Cedar Rapids Prairie.
