SOLON – The Vinton-Shellsburg girls’ soccer team went up against a buzzsaw Tuesday night, as Coach Alana Svensen’s Vikettes dropped a 10-0 decision to 7th-ranked Solon in WaMaC Conference action.
Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Spangler had 11 saves for the Vikettes, who dropped to 0-3 for the year.
The Vikette junior varsity picked up their first win of the season Tuesday, as they edged the Spartans, 1-0 on Erika Hammer’s first-half breakaway goal.
The Vikettes travel to Independence Friday to take on the Mustangs for a 5 p.m. tilt, then come home Tuesday for their 2010 home opener at the new field at Vinton-Shellsburg High School. The Vikettes host Waterloo Columbus beginning at 4:30 p.m., then turn around Thursday for another home tilt with Center Point-Urbana, before taking to the road Friday to take on Clear Creek-Amana.
