VSU kept it close until the end despite being without 6 swimmers, but Waterloo pulled away with the win in the varsity contest. Final varsity team scores were Waterloo 94, VSU 85. 10 unanswered points were earned by Waterloo in diving, as VSU does not have diving facilities and therefore does not have divers to compete in that event. VSU won the JV team score 22-19.
Geordyn Webster & Justyce Dominick had powerful showings in the sprints again, going 1st & 2nd in the 50 Freestyle. Mara Spalding put in a grand effort in that event too - missing 3rd place by just .08 of a second. Lexi Goodell looked great in her 100 Breaststroke win and relay legs, and Clarissa Carolan showed her power in the 100 Backstroke win as well as her relay legs.Major kudos must be given to Grace Walker for filling in for an ill teammate in the difficult 500 Freestyle. Grace swam a strong race to take 3rd place and scored needed points for the team. She really stepped up when we needed her.
We face Waterloo again in a few weeks. We'll be up a few more varsity swimmers by then so I'm hopeful for a reversed outcome that night!
