The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes got the 2019 season off to flying start Tuesday night with a triangular sweep at Garrison Fieldhouse.

Trouncing Midland of Wyoming in their opener, the Vikettes scored 25-12, 25-8, then closed out the night a 26-24, 25-23 sweep of Anamosa.

The Vikettes will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Tama for the Meskwaki Invitational, beginning at 9 a.m. The team returns home Sept. 5 when they host Benton Community. The match will be part of the “Courage For Carly” fundraiser for V-S kindergarten teacher Carly Meyer, who was recently diagnosed Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. The fund-raiser will begin at 5 PM and continue through the volleyball match.
