Coach Jeff Mangold's Vinton-Shellsburg cross-country team opened the 2019 season with strong showings at rugged Mount Vernon-Lisbon Invitational Tuesday.
The Viking boys finished 11th in the 15-team field, while the Vikettes finished 10th. Senior Cameron Karr was the boys’ top finisher in the meet with a 41st place, while sophomore Charlee Johnson paced the girls with a 57th.
The Vikings and Vikettes will get back it Tuesday when they travel south for the Williamsburg Invitational.
