The members of the Vinton-Shellsburg High School girls golf team celebrated two consecutive victories in the past few days.
On Thursday, the girls wore their bright yellow shirts for their home meet vs. Independence, which they won by 20 strokes. Then on Saturday, they donned purple and black and finished first among the five teams competing in the Benton Invite, edging Benton Community by one for a 379-380 victory in their first 18-hole outing of the years. Lauren Tandy again led the Vikettes, with an 88.

This was our first 18 hole event of the season and our team won this tournament; Lauren Tandy emerged as medalist, shooting 44-44! Olivia Walker(49,44) and Kaiti Kilpatrick(50,47) also received medals. Our seasoned veterans like the Tara Hills course and shot well; I was very pleased with our scores and improved putting. Rachel Tandy just missed a medal by losing on the card back. Freshman Brandi Gerber played at the varsity level for the first time and recorded a birdie 2 on the par 3 #3 hole.
Monday we travel to Amana for a meet with Clear Creek-Amana, Marion and Williamsburg. Thursday varsity and JV return to Tara Hills for a dual meet with Benton Community.
