Sports : Vikette soccer team off to best start in school history

The Vikettes are 4-1 on the soccer season; the team's best start in school history.

After a difficult 5-0 loss at Western Dubuque to start the season, the Vinton-Shellsburg girls soccer team has won four straight, outscoring opponents 12-1. On Friday, six different Vikettes scored in the 6-0 win over Benton Community.

“It's been a successful season so far and things are going well,” says Coach Dave Cornell. “We're not finishing as well as we need to, but in most other areas I'm satisfied with where we're at.”

The start is the best in school history.

“The girls are great and they are a pleasure to work with,” says the coach. “We've been having a lot of fun. There are many good teams out there, but we'll just keep working and see where that takes us.”
