The Viking-Vikette Hall of Fame includes those who competed for their hometown schools of Shellsburg and Garrison before those schools merged with Vinton. One of the 2014 inductees is Brian White, a 1984 Shellsburg graduate.

Brian participated in summer & fall baseball, cross country, basketball and track (some smaller schools played fall baseball in the absence of football). Brian was a 4-year varsity starter in basketball, leading the 1983-84 Warriors to the best record in school history, 20-3, including an Iowa Cedar Six championship (second consecutive) with a 9-1 conference record. They also won their second consecutive sectional title. Brian was a three-time First Team All-conference selection and a two-time All-State honoree. He became a member of the Iowa Boys Basketball Association's 1,000-point Club with a career total of 1,036 points. His other career stats include:

Career Stats: (84 games)

FG. 415-824. (50.4%)

FT. 173-224. (77.2%)

Rebounds. 342. (4.1)

Assists. 240. (2.9)

Steals. 122 (1.5)

Points. 1036. (12,3)
Coach Gary Zittergruen states that "Brian was a great team player and a coach on the floor. Certainly one of the top athletes I coached during my 18 years of coaching high school athletics."
Brian says his biggest high school sports thrill was defeating host-school and undefeated, Marv Cook-led West Branch in their own Holiday Classic and being named captain of the all-tournament team.
Brian also received All-conference recognition in baseball and qualified for the 1983 State Track & Field meet in three relay events. Brian now lives in Atkins and works for General Mills.
